Default UPDATE #36...Transmission **** !!!...She Needs To Be Driven Hard....PICS !!!

Last week I posted pics of the Holinger sequential. We are attaching it to a new Z06 torque tube. This will allow me to use the old torque tube and transmission which I will have rebuilt for back up use. The more I think about this, the more I think we will see somebody put one of these in a street car one day. Imagine never missing a shift, ever.

The history is in these threads:

We are awaiting a Carbon Drive Shaft and Bobby from LG Motorsports has been helpful in expediting for this coming Monday. Thank You Bobby!

Here is what happens if you don't have the equipment to hold the power. Don't worry, it's not from my car, I'm just taking preventative actions now.

Here is a picture of the rear Holinger transmission cover that bolts to the differential.

Below are pics of where the cover fits the rear of the Holinger.

The bracket for the shifter is being mounted on a custom welded frame on the torque tube.

Here is a pic of the Z06 torque tube and Holinger.

The next three pics should give you a good understanding of how the shifter and Transmission work in unison.

Here the shift cable is attached:

It runs down the tube to the bottom of the shifter handle.

This one should tie it all in together. I temporarily held the shifter up so you would see how it will stand when mounted. As you pull the shifter down to up-shift it mimics the same exact movement each and every time, no matter what gear you're in. The same applies for downshifts when pushing it forward. The tip of the handle tips independently initially to trigger the 'no-lift'.

By week's end the car should be on the track.......showing how inept I am.

This would make one good mod for the drag racers!

Feel free to fire away any questions.

Mike,

That is awesome.

Now that you have almost completed the beast, when do the mods start?

Tom,

Quite funny.........but

You don't realize how close to the truth you speak!

There is actually quite a bit that will change over the winter. Much of it is still being worked out, but needless to say this years performance will be beat by opening season.

Like Louis from LG mentioned a few threads ago (UPDATE #34, post #23) ...

Expect to spend 30k, which is what we had budgeted when we put them in the WC cars.

If Mike got the good ratio set, Im jealous We have mandated ratios that are not optimal, and only use gears 1-5. Stack them closer and use all 6 and it will be much more effective
Louis..be jealous!

I do have the sequential with the good ratio set and will be using all the gears. I guess that's an advantage building it for an SPO class.

Of course add labor to the custom work it takes to fit the driver properly...i.e the torque tube brackets, etc...

Loan you one? One time down the strip and you'd keep going to not give it back!

(again ) "The Beast" will shortly be fully-loaded for bear.....

So, if I understand all this high-tech racing gizmo stuff correctly - the clutch is only used for the initial launch, and if/when you need to engage neutral or reverse?

And, with the no-lift shift, the ECM automatically blips the throttle during upshifts....downshifts as well?

I could probably look all of this up - but I'm too lazy.

All true except no blips are needed on up-shifts.

Thanks. Guess I meant "lifts" instead of blips (probably still wrong).

Re: avatar --- Thanks! That was my baby. We called her "girlfriend." My father and I spent over a year restoring/modding a basket-case base '69 coupe into a Z28 clone in the late 80's. He provided the shop and labor, I provided the $$ on my meager night-shift c-store clerk salary.

Redid everything short of pulling the body off the frame. Cammed n/a 350, low gears designed for 1/4 -1/8 mi. drags. Color was a custom Garnet Red base (deeper with more metal flake), along with a 60's era white that was available on Corvette's for the stripes.

She at least inched on or beat any stock vehicle I ever encountered -- until I ran across some vehicles on spray. She had a great win/loss record. That was, until she was totalled when someone ran a yellow light turning into my path.

She was repaired (replaced subframe, body panels) - but was never the same. Had to sell her to heal the pain. <sigh>

Anyway, sorry for the OT diatribe, and thanks for the explanation.

I caught myself looking but didn't see if it was ever mentioned how much the transmission itself weighed.

Does the Holinger transmission shifter use fuel cut or ignition cut for "no lift" upshifts?

Mike,

Now that you will have the final setup with the sequential tranny, when will you post the weight of the car?

Good question! I will try to sneak it on the scale before we install the Drive Shaft.
