If you can't find any obvious causes, you can get some chalk, put it on your trunk seal and shut it. Once you open it back you can see by the chalk where you do and don't have seal contact.

They are painted with black high temp engine...

They are painted with black high temp engine paint. I painted them first and then used my drimmel tool to brush off the paint from the raised Corvette letters.
