I added a volt gauge to mine instead of an ammeter. I just used an pink "ignition" switched wire to the cluster. The hot feed to the temp gauge and fuel gauge.

It has to do with how the radiator is held in. If you have a bottom that goes all the way across, it is late. If the bottom has 2 cradles, it is early.

I added it to my 'vert but if I had it to do again I would not. But if it is there I would keep it. Also depends on where in the country you are and a little on the year of the car too IMHO.

Be sure you get the right one. 76E uses a long A6 a/c compressor. 76L uses a short R4 compressor. The mounting for the radiator and fan shroud is different between them.
