Keep the air or not
Hi everyone! Doing some work on my car... rebuilding seats, tach, under the hood.... new rad, Edelbrock performer intake, 650 Holley and a few other goodies. I'm debating on whether or not to keep the air cond. It takes up a lot of space under the hood, and clutters the look. What do you think? Deny.

I guess it depends on where you live and how you drive the car.....We would freakin die down here in Houston without AC..... Hell its Nov 2nd today and I had the AC running just a bit ago on a quick run to Burger house....
I don't see much reason to pull it off unless its completely trashed or you never intend to fix/use it...
You can definitely shed some weight off the car though by removing everything...The compressor alone is 40lbs..(A6)...

I replaced the original A/C with a Vintage Air system. The VA system removed everything from under the hood except the compressor and the hoses. All other componets are under the dash.
Really opened up the space under the hood and keeps the ride ice cold even on the hottest days.

I'm installing a Vintage Air system also. In some ways I'm impressed with the factory air with all those vacuum solenoids, vacuum lines and vacuum controllers. Replacing it with a Vintage Air is akin to ripping out an old compressed air Werlitzer pipe organ and replacing with a electronic keyboard!
The Vintage Air really creates a lot of room in the engine compartment. Also, it's more efficient. The Vintage Air evaportor is in the passenger compartment far away from engine heat. It's just awful that the factory air evaporator compartment is right next to the exhaust manifolds, expecially since there's no insulation for the evaporator compartment!!! And the factory air compressor is bolted to the exhaust manifold!!! Unbelievable....arghhhh.

I added it to my 'vert but if I had it to do again I would not. But if it is there I would keep it. Also depends on where in the country you are and a little on the year of the car too IMHO.

Thanks Guys for the advice. Where I live in southern British Columbia, the car is put away from Nov. to April during winter. The summers where I live in Sorrento, BC can get warm....85 - 95, but the humidity is low. The AC is nice, but not used a whole lot, so I think I will pull it. I can always replace it with aftermarket stuff. Thanks again, Deny.

In the deep south, men can live without the A/C but it's nice to have.
But the women here don't like to sweat when riding. Take your pick: Keep cool or forget second dates.
