I've done more mods then I care to write down, but the best yet that I've been very happy with this the Hydrobooster set-up. This thing stops on a dime and with very little effort.

I believe 1977 was the first year they started painting the blocks blue. They may have started this half way through production as 1977 had several changes midway through the production.
