Default engine question

Hey, I just bought my first corvette a couple of weeks ago. I love this forum!!!! I have learned so much and have been entertained by you guys. My vette is a 77. The vin tells me it should be an L48. The engine is blue. I thought that it should be orange. The stamp on the block is V1127TJR. Can anyone tell me what this motor is and any idea how much horsepower I am starting with? I have my fingers crossed that it is not a 305 motor.

Congrats.

Both 77 L-48 180 HP & L-82 are 350. Only the 80 Calif. model had a 305.

There is some 77 info. on my website you might find interesting.

I believe 1977 was the first year they started painting the blocks blue. They may have started this half way through production as 1977 had several changes midway through the production.

Ganey, nice site dude! I think someone has changed the motor in my vette. the engine now has blue paint on it, thats why I think its not a vette motor.

Your engine was built in the Flint MI plant on Nov. 27th. A TJR engine came from a light duty C- series Chev truck. Get us the casting number and date from the rear flange of the block to narrow it down further.

The blue paint would indicate that it's from the '77-up time frame.

Bad news. TJR indicates a truck block, 350CID 180hp. Looks like the engine may have been swapped.

V is the code for the Flint, Michigan engine assembly plant.
1127 is the date the engine was assembled at Flint (November 27th)

Thanks.

Yours was blue. The base L-48 is a normal Chevy 350 so it's just not the original 350.
To increase power, see if your ex. is single.
See what many refer to as my Exhaust topic.
