Live up in Connecticut, took it out for a long trip last Saturday, almost 50 degrees and clear blue skys. Trust me it won't hurt it to take it out on nice days.

Exactly, had the same issue, kept pushing it in and it kept coming off, finally stoped pushing it and left it loose as I turned, stays put fine.

Hate to tell you but you got a hoseing, call Dennis Fitchner at Fitchner Chevy, easy to look up on the forum. I paid substantially less for a 6 year 75000 also top tier.
