I bought the body color painted aluminum from from RPI and stuck some rubber "bumps" to the back of the plate to keep it off the bumper. It is plenty secure. No need to drill.

I agree with what everyone here has said. Give it a good rinse and then wash it properly. 15-20 minutes now can save you hours of buffing later.
