If it is just the switch, you can remove it through the side panel of you console. Vacuum hose connector, and two screws.

Put a voltmeter on the battery and measure AC voltage while the car is running- yes, I said AC voltage as in Alternating Current- If the meter is reading any more than ~1-2 volts than the alternator...

I would shoot the wires before replacing anything. Disconnect the small wire at the starter, and see if you are getting power to it even when the switch is not in the start position.
