I don't think the anitfreeze tastes sweet anymore. There were so many instances of people drinking it (unknowingly) that manufacturers had to change the recipe so it wouldn't be sweet. Good news for the dogs too.

I tasted the coolant in the recovery tank and it's sweet. the one on the intake manifold doesn't have the same taste.
i did it some days ago. ok i won't do that anymore.

so what to do now? detach the intake manifold and put new gasket? hate to do that...

ah , before retorque the leak was much more and i found just a tad of that green stuff on a couple of spark plug. just a bit .
the engine runs great anyway and no white smoke, no oil consumption...

advises welcome

p.s. the engine has been made by a reputable engine builder that makes tons of BB for race. It's difficult to think to any mistake from his side considering how meticolous he has been in the whole engine build

I have checked right now the engine and surprise... everything is dry and no sign at all of that leak. i took the pics posted yesterday after a ride then i shut the hood close.

so what is it? the oils doesn't evaporate but i know that also the coolant doesn't evaporate easily and can stay long time there. am i wrong ? my coolant 50/50 water and alu coolant

i have checked also spark plugs 2 and 4 and they are fine

Any chance you used the copper looking never seize on the intake bolts? I know when the jar sits around for awhile it separates out and has to be stirred up. The liquid part of it looks very similar to that color.

do you think that permatex ultra-copper rtv was used to help seal the manifold. I know its been recommended to seal the bridges in front and rear of the block and not use the rubber/cork seals. my $.02s.

68 70 vette is correct, unless you are p----- off at your liver, I'd not taste that stuff. Dogs will drink that stuff and it crystalizes their liver. Heat it on some steel and it will have a sweat odor if anti freeze. Your liver will like you again.

I think that Kermit had his way with your engine.

I wouldn't be tasting it..., but then, I don't swing that way. :o

Looks like Hylomar gasket sealer. If I remember it doesn't set up, maybe just squeezed out when you re-torqued the manifold.

And no I never tasted it either

Hi Aldo! I check in once in a while. Could be some type of assembly lube or sealer. I will check with Tim and see what he uses. Glad to hear it is running strong! Sometimes after repeated heat cool cycles you will need to retorque some things, especially aluminum to aluminum surfaces. Looks like you did that and seepage stopped. Good news.

Hi Kevin
yes check with Tim ( the engine builder) , possibly same thing on other engines he made.
few miles on my engine but many heat cycles. the intake bolts were at slightly less than 30 ft-lb before retorque. torqued again at 35

should i drain the oil from the pan and check for coolant?

thanks everybody for the "brainstorming"

Any coolant in the oil will be visable on the dipstick. Don't take much to turn it grey. I dount an issue with that.

Yes. Brad Penn oil. No sealant used. Felpro gasket used to match original look as close as possible. Retorque intake should stop it.

I'd say the green substance is some type of "anti-seize" f/ bolt threads. (...and write to the mfg. to request that they flavor their product w/ something tasty, ie; Jack Daniels, Taquila, or how about Blue Bell ice cream flavors???)

No Brad Penn oil anymore. Now it's Amsoil 10w40 which is brown not green like Brad Penn.

the engine builder says to also check the head's bolts tq that could be relaxed due to aluminum expansion. i'll do it.
which is the head bolts tq? my book says 65 ft-lb for short and 75 ft-lb for long bolts

note: this green fluid evaporates fast with engine heat. still leakin a bit after intake retorque. no many chances to take the car out for a ride because bad weather
