There is no shortcut that I'm aware of. The speakers come out from underneath and I can't see doing that w/o pulling the dash especially on the drivers side w/ the tach/speedo and steering column....

Or consider installing a Pertronix or similar electronic conversion kit. It's a cheap, easy project, fits under the stock cap, and retains the stock distributor (with mech. tach drive).
