It looks to me that they changed the engine out...

My 88 had the greenwood kit. I still have the spoiler, sold the rest. But they were hand laid fiberglass parts with a greenwood tag in the fiberglass on the inside of the pieces.

Sure you didnt just have bad connections at the battery and or the grounds to the engine? If you had nothing at all, but a jump worked, sounds to me bad connections at battery. 11.8 should have done...
