Replacement of the 14101081 heads of the 305 motor with 14102193
Hello, dear mechanics! For a long time I could not find any information on GM V8 engines on technical resources. And so, having accidentally stumbled upon your forum, I discovered that there are specialists here who know these motors to such subtleties as nowhere else and no one else.
Therefore, I hope that I can get an answer to my question from you. I apologize if I am writing something incomprehensibly, since I am writing through an electronic translator.Hello, dear mechanics! For a long time, I could not find the necessary information about GM V8 engines on technical resources in my country. And so, having accidentally stumbled upon your forum, I discovered that there are specialists here who know these motors to such niceties as nowhere else and no one else.
Therefore, I hope that I can get an answer to my question from you. I apologize if I am writing something incomprehensible, since I do not know English and write through an electronic translator.
I live by the lake. I have a 33-year-old Bayliner boat with a Mercruiser V8 5.0L engine. I bought it a year and a half ago. I rode it with friends, children and grandchildren last summer, but not for long. Water went into the engine. In 1 and 3 cylinders.
Upon autopsy, it turned out that the gasket of the head was pierced, and both heads were bent. The even one is less, and the odd one is much. In addition, the odd one has a crack that passes directly through the seat of the exhaust valve of the 5th cylinder.
Both castings are 14101081. In my country, it is very difficult to find second-hand GM V8 parts. Because there are not so many of these cars either. Therefore, I cannot find the head 14101081 yet. But here I found two 14102193 heads in decent condition. I have already read on your forum that these are TBI vortex heads. And that they are being scolded for not allowing the engine to spin above 5000. But I don't need to: the maximum speed of my engine is 4400 - 4800.
I also found information that both my 14101081 and 14102193 have a 58cc camera. The output is the same, 1.5. My intake is 1.84, and on the head 14102193 it is 1.94. But I also found that on 305 engines, the output is drilled to 1.94. So it's not scary.I also found information that both my 14101081 and 14102193 have a 58 cc chamber. But I still haven't found the answer to the most important question: is it possible to use vortex heads for TBI on a carburetor engine?
Tell me, please! Will the ship's Mercruiser V8 5.0L Carb work if its heads 14101081 are changed to 14102193? Of course, I will polish the heads, I will grind the valves.

The center bolts of the "new" heads are 90° straight up, and the old heads are angled. You would have to either redrill the center holes to work with the new heads, or buy a new intake that would work with those vortec heads.

I am in the Urals, in Russia. The fact of the matter is that I found the heads of 14102193 relatively close to me, in Barnaul. It's about 1,850 kilometers away from me - by Russian standards, it's nothing.

You do not want those heads, they are swirl port truck heads. They do not flow air as well as the tpi heads and the timing needed for those heads is significantly different then what works for the tpi.

Thank you for taking the time to solve my problem. But I don't have a TBI engine or TPI injection. I have a 305 engine with a 2BBL carburetor. It should develop 220 horsepower at a maximum speed of 4400 - 4800 rpm. And in practical use on a boat, it operates almost all the time at a speed of 3000 - 3200 rpm.
