I found them! The wires that go to the rear interior lights are accessible by removing the rear corner inside carpeted panels that the lights pop into incase anyone else needs to know.

If the switch was bad (and I would be glad to buy a new one if that is the case) it would have worked with a good switch. I took the switch off the other seat and tried it. It didn't change anything....

I too find it strange that the 03 has the same system but Lyle says it can be deleted and the 04 can't. If so maybe the GM software writers put a curse on us. I am going to do more searches on this...
