Re: Vacuum question on 406 with big cam... (Dracula383)

Normally, stumbles or hesitations are a sign that the engine isn't getting enough fuel. Check the accelerator pumps for excessive clearance, or maybe you need larger squirters or a different cam.

Re: Removing the choke tower from a Demon carb? (gkull)

Those k&n filter tops are quite thick. I had to go to a 4 by 14 inch filter to not hit the vent tube on my demon 750 carb using a 2 inch drop base. I wouldn't grind the vent tube, but you can pick up...

Re: Well 400 is at the machine shop -- could use some cam advice... (Jack71)

Sounds like you are building a 400 based engine. I have a 406 with that cam (3), 1.6 rr's with the afr 210 heads, 6 inch rods and 10.5 -1 forged pistons. It idles great, drives at low rpm's easily,...

Re: 5-link rear suspension a reality?? (shawn_cake)

[quote]I looked at Pierres construction blueprints a year ago.
it is a clone of the GREENWOOD 5-link suspension - the race suspension that was used in the early '70's. It is somewhat different than...

Re: 5-link rear suspension a reality?? (shawn_cake)

Shawn, did you have the Guldstrand rear suspension when you were drag racing last summer in Calgary (I'm the guy with the black 406 powered 74)? Can you get that Merlin powered beast to hook up...

Re: AFR water ports (black bart)

I have 210's, and had to drill my own. They go in the stock location, you do have to use a "short" sensor though, because the water jacket isn't quite as deep as stock (my stock Corvette water...

Re: Off-topic question for Canadians (1bad69)

Western-brewed Kokanee isn't a bad mainstream beer, but since being taken over by the Molson's or Labatts (I forget who), the quality has gone down. Alexander Keith's is quite good, but my favorites...

Re: C3 times (Montezumas_Viper)

I would think if your car is healthy (motor is sound), you should beat a 180 hp probe.

Assuming your car is healthy.....Options to modify your car include: headers and 2.5 inch mandrel bent...

Re: Headers vs. Ram's Horns (79Corvette02)

According to David Vizard (engine builder and author), ported ram's horn manifolds can provide up to 2/3 of the benefits of 1 5/8 long tube headers. They'll seal better, look stock, and be quieter...

Re: Has anyone plugged thier Oil Filter Bypass ?? (Rumpity Rump)

I have. As long as you use the k&n filter you'll be fine. Just be sure to change your filter often. Even John Lingenfelter recommends doing it in hi-po applications. At startup, when the oil is cold,...

Re: 406 EFI, AFR 195's or 210's? (CORKVETTE1)

Nice times in your sig. Corkvette! You must be running slicks or drag radials to get that low e.t.

Re: 406 EFI, AFR 195's or 210's? (88-406)

A point that no one has brought up yet is the difference in lift and springs that the 210's have versus the 195's. The 210's have a 1.550 spring versus a smaller spring (I forget the size) on the...

Re: 406 EFI, AFR 195's or 210's? (ld85)

I have a carbed (750 demon) 406 with a single plane intake and am using the race-ready 210 heads. These heads still have great port velocity on a 406, and driveability is excellent even with a single...

Re: Is this a good price on 3" exhaust? (Andrew)

Just to add to the topic:

If I was to install another 3 inch exhaust on my 74 vette, I would use oval pipe after the exhaust goes through the tranny crossmember. I would carry on with the oval...

Re: Turbo applications - assembly lubes, anti-seize, stainless steel, etc. (Monty)

Re: Looking into 2-bolt 400 blocks, any preference on casting #s? (The Green Rocket)

I've got a 509 block. It has 010 cast into the block under the timing cover, above the oil filter, and inside the bell housing area. These numbers (010 and 020) stand for percentage of nickle and tin...

Re: Turbos, tires, and traction (Monty)

Interesting article! I was considering upping my tire size from a 255/50 -16 to something larger. Maybe I'll just get a set of drag radials. I wonder how tire size affects cornering? The article was...

Re: cam lift for 406? (ld85)

I'm running a Crane hydraulic roller with 222/230 duration @ .050. With 1.6 rockers, lift is ~.550" lift, with 1.5 rockers, it would be ~.520". It made 476 hp and just about 500 torque but ran out...
