I am running a single main Magnaflow high flow universal cat and it works great. I removed the two pre cats and kept the main. It cost about $65.

A new K&N will flow a bit better. Unless you live in very dusty country I see little advantage. The cut lid with a paper filter is best overall IMO.

Some industry sources say tires will "age out" in about 10 years from the date of manufacture. Aging can vary depending on what the actual compound is, and what it is exposed to. Check for date codes...

This is from memory but I believe the 1991 pistons were flat tops and compression was @ 10.2:1 They may have tinkered with the cam profile or just stated a low HP rating to make the LT1 look better...
