Default Alternator voltage ?

Is 14 volts within the normal operating range for a 108 amp L98 alternator?

14v should not be fine and not a problem assuming the internal regulator drops voltage once the battery is fully charged. Both my 87 and 02 will show voltages around 14.2 to 14.3 when the engine is started and that voltage will stay there for awhile depending on the state of charge in the battery. Then the volts will drop to somewhere around 13.6v to 13.8v.

Of course voltage will vary depending on the number of accessories being operated, what lights are on and such.

Are you seeing this with a DVM at the alternator, or at the battery? Or the dash readout?

Yes, mine is between 13.9 and 14.7 at all times.. Higher when first started , then it drops after running awhile...I believe our alternators are 105 amp...WW

Okay, thanks guys. Seems like my car has always run somewhere in the 13.3 volt range and has not varied too much. Recently its been running in the 14.2 area. Maybe its because my 4 year old battery is not holding a charge like it used to. I'll just not worry about it for now and see what happens.

Thanks again.

Once the battery is below 12V value means that it's dying, just pay attention on that.
