you need to dry off the wheels first! This way any dust in the hose will not get on your paint, its just in the hose...

If its a wax the solvents in the wax will likely remove the previous wax by taking it back into solution. The skill becomes in how you apply the second layer of wax....

I have found the BEST tire cleaner is Tuf Shine wheel cleaner, while I like ARO a lot I can clean the tires faster with tuf shine. Don't use it on uncoated wheels, ARO is also pretty harsh for them...
