4" angle grinder with #36 grit disc, simply grind out about 2" on each side of the crack at an angle, so the fiberglass is almost razor thin at the crack, to full thickness about 2" out each side...

I slipped some thin proper ID brass tube over the cancelling spring pins. Fixed the problem right proper. Tube wall was maybe .007"-.010". Used a bit of adhesive to keep them in place.

Overhauled meant somebody had the motor rebuilt in 2007. I was not chasing down any particular running problem, just going thru and checking everything, like timing, oil level, does the AC work, etc....
