Dealer won't change oil until under 20% oil life remaining
Just called my dealer today to get my first oil change. I have 2500 miles on my c7 with a 67% oil life remaining. But they informed me that I have to wait until it hits 20% and that they don't go by the mileage. If i do decide to get it done before that... I would have to come out of pocket. My question is... Is it OK or normal to wait till you hit the 20% marker? Thanks for the input

Just took mine in.......1700 miles they changed the oil, checked the diff. fluid level......no issues whatsoever!!
I would go to a different dealer!

20% “rule” is being followed by the two dealers closest to me.
I’ve always changed my own oil and will do so here as well.
With the number of miles I will put on the car, I won’t get to 20% until the max of a year occurs and I won’t leave oil in any car that long.
First oil change will be in a couple of hours, Castrol Edge Extended Performance synthetic and Fram XG10060 synthetic filter at just over 1000 miles. Will move to an every 7 mo or so change interval afterward.
Your call. Don

Such a stupid rule. I feel if I have 4 free oil changes in 2 years I should be able to use them when I want. Probably going to call them back and tell them I'm switching dealers then see if they will make an exception to this rule. Thanks

I'm more concerned as well with the myth about there being metal shavings in the oil because it's a new car... So I wanted to get an oil change a little earlier than I normally would. Plus it's going to be garaged and not driven in the winter months. So by the time I hit 20% might be next spring... and Like w88fixer mentioned...I wouldn't want to leave oil in for that long

GM says that is their policy. I've confirmed this with 2 Chevy CS sources - their 800 # and their website chat
YMMV......

It seems to be be very "dealer dependent". Many here have reported getting free early oil changes and told they can get 4 free anytime in the first 2 years.
If you want to read about it here are 4 prior discussions:

I guess you and I are fortunate to have dealers taking care of us. Mine changed my Z51 at 43% and my 14 Silverado at 33%.

My dealership said I get 4 free oil changes, and that I can use them whenever I please during the first 2 years/24k miles. I changed just the filter myself @ 1k miles, then had them do the first scheduled oil change at 15% life/6500 miles after I got home from a roadtrip.
