Don't wait to get your first free oil change!
Like many new C7 owners I was waiting before taking my new Corvette into the local Chevrolet dealer until my engine oil life reading was below 50%. What prompted me to take my car in today was I noticed that the car was drifting to the right on the freeway when I took my hands off the steering wheel. Given the price of the tires on the new C7, I didn't want to prematurely wear them out, plus, according to Chevrolet Customer Service, GM will only pay for a front end wheel realignment & balancing between 500 to 7,500 miles.
Not only was the front end alignment "out of specs", the Service Dept. told me there was a rear-end differential Recall Campaign #13360 regarding low differential fluid levels in the new C7's, that I knew nothing about. Turns out my C7 (Vin. # 6729) "was low" in its differential fluid level.
Oil & filter was changed, front end was realigned to factory specs, differential fluid levels were brought up to factory specs. Cost: $0.00
Moral of this post: Don't screw around with your $65,000 to $80,000 new C7. Get her into your local dealership's service dept. ASAP and have them: 1. check your differential's fluid level; 2. check your front end alignment; and 3. while you are there, drop the break-in oil, and get a new filter & oil in your new baby.

Drifting
Good advice. I soon as I get home in a couple weeks, I'm going to take mine in. It has 1,300 miles currently, and I think it's pulling a bit to the right as well. I was planning on changing the oil at 1,500 anyways.

I took mine in for it's first OC on Wednesday, OLM said I was at 55% (5345 kms), they did the diff fluid check, it was pretty low. Mine also drifts a little bit so next time I'm in which will be soon to fix the dim display at dusk (which happens intermittently) and memory seats I will get them to take a look at it.
Thanks for the reminder.

wasn't that dif lube issue only for early C7s? I don't know the cutoff date...but seems it is not a problem with recent builds....

Do you seriously have to wait til 5k to get a free oil change? I've never even gotten a car to 5k miles in my city in the 3-4 years I own them. I typically have the oil changed yearly.

Roads are crowned for water drianage... the car is going to drift to the right with no hands on the wheel. That's normal.
As for "front end alignment"... that's garbage on a car like this. This isn't a stick axle. You need to align all four corners to ensure thrust angle is maintained. Just doing the front end w/o doing it relative to the rear can have you "dog tracking".

Good move in getting the car into the dealer and having it checked out.

I agree with the " front end alignment""? ???? It's always been, for years, all four wheels.
That said, I had them check the alignment before I took delivery, and I got my first oil change at 2000 mi. I will also have them do an actual alignment before the 7500 mi point, where it will be on their dime.

No. You are allowed 4 free anytime during the first 2 years. Your DIC could say 90% and still get a free change.

What brake in oil ? They haven't used brake in oil since the latter part of the last century. The engine has the same semi-syn Dexos grade oil you get with the free oil change.

I took mine in for an oil change at 4300 and the dealer said I didn't need an oil change. They also said there was a low differential fluid TSB and another TSB for engine going on limp mode on hard G forces. They said it would take hours to fix. I changed my own oil at my buddy's independent shop and put over a quart of differential fluid in the diff. I complained to GM and they set up an appointment at Stingray Chevrolet. I did not buy the car there, but they treated me great. They did the reprogramming of the car and changed out the diff oil to insure there was no significant metal in the oil. They then reimbursed me the cost of the oil change and diff fluid fill at my buddy's shop. I'll be going to Stingray for anything I choose not to do myself.
Dealers are NOT supposed to release cars to new owners until the diff fluid is checked. It is insane that I had 4300 miles before I even heard about the low diff fluid problem. My vin is 7397.

The dealer where I bought my car claimed that, but Stingray says you get 4 free ones in 2 years regardless of OLM. If you have low diff fluid and they finally check it at 6 or 7K miles, your diff could be fried. I still worry that I may not have dealt with the low diff soon enough. But, Stingray and GM said I now have a file on it and I am protected if the diff goes out even after the warranty.
