Default free oil service

My dealer told me my C7 came with free oil service while under warranty. Is the a nationwide GM program? I bought my Vette at a dealer far from home. I would rather pay for the service than drive several hours round trip to get an free oil change. If is a GM policy, I would take it to a local Chevy dealer.

On your sticker, it should say you get the first 2-years, 24,000 miles services free. That's basically free oil changes for the first 2-years (I asked). They are good at all GM service centers. I bought my car from Criswell Chevy in MD and will be getting service in Williamsburg VA. If your dealer is giving you free oil changes while the car is under warranty, you're lucky, but it is probably only good at that dealer's location.

To clarify, you do NOT need to go to the dealer you bought from. ANY authorized Chevy service place can do it

(same for warranty work)

If we really have as many garage queens on the Forum as it seems, Chevy will not be making too many oil changes.

some dealers offer life time oil changes but they charge fees for the service bay, recycle fee, shop supplys so its $45 for a free oil change.

Thanks. I assume the information center on the best way to tell when the oil change is due. In the old days I changed the oil every 3000 miles but it looks like those days are in the past.

You have to wait until the DIC shows oil life of 20% to get the free oil change.

I don't care about the free oil changes or the little memory in the car that tells you when. I change at 9 months as I don't do enuf mileage to use that as a counter, if I did, I'd change at 5000. And I don't want the dealer screwing up/dinging my wheels or car, so I do it myself with Mobil 1 EX Hi Perf....

My dealer told my that GM indicated to him that they will pay for four oil changes during the first two years. They have no preference of the miles between the changes. I thought that was nice as some might want the first oil change quicker than the other ones

If you have a Z51, you really make out. They hold 10.5 quarts due to the Dry Sump Oiling System and I think the Oil Filter is an upgrade (more expensive) than the Stock non Z51 version.

Of course, it cost an EXTRA $2,800 to get the Z51 Package so I guess it will even out in the long run. .
Never mind...

There used to be a guy who frequented this forum. He was a former GM engineer, and was involved with developing the algorithm behind the oil life system on the C5. He told us the system looked not only at miles, but temps, rpms, engine load, and such to determine engine oil life. He finally quit coming on the forum because he was so tired of catching crap from all the internet experts who would tell him he didn't know what he was talking about on various corvette subjects.

While I did make an initial oil change at 1000 mi on my C5, since then, I have followed his advice, and the manual, either when the DIC said less than 20%, or once a year, whichever came first. I have also done this on the 2 C6s we own and the new C7.

The system is sophisticate enough to know when your oil needs changing. If you always put gentle highway miles on it, your oil might last 12000 mi, while if you are doing a weekend of track time and HPDEs, your oil may only last the weekend. As the GM guy said, 3000 mi oil changes came out of the 60s, when single viscosity oils with limited additives were the standard. The only people in the auto industry currently advocating 3000 mi oil changes are the oil change shops.

Only at scheduled maintenace intervals.
That's 7,500 miles - not when you want it!

What I wrote is exactly true!
GM's program is for SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE!
Perhaps your dealer is offering something different, but it is NOT A GM PROGRAM!
So read the post before you go off half cocked!
Or is that the story of your life?

Why don't you read your manual?

That's not what you said!
Your statement was "Not true at my dealer. Maybe yours is different".
Why don't you READ your vehicle "warranty" statement and "scheduled maintenance" statement before you throw out THIRD HAND information as FACT?
My post was based on FACTUAL INFORMATION - not OPINION and or THIRD HAND rumors!
