Default Warning about the Neucleus NC-X2i iPod adapter

Just got off the phone with service. My "battery won't hold a charge" problem is due to a 3 amp drain on the battery even when everything is off, which they say is being caused by the Neucleus NC-X2i I had put in. According to them, GM has a bulletin out which says that the iPod adapter which uses the XM input on the head unit causes the audio system to continue to draw power even when the car is off.

So, it's coming out, and I'll go back to an FM transmitter for my iPod connectivity. Which is a shame, because otherwise I really liked it.

I hear ya - I take my car on lots of long trips, and while the XM is nice, running my iPod playlists is even better. I was very excited at the initial reports, and at my initial usage experiences. But after sitting about 36 hours, the battery was low enough that starting is ouch and go. After 48-60, no startee.

The good news is that at my request the installer ran the iPod and Aux-In cables into my cup holder (front half has my ValentineOne remote display, wit the back half for the iPod & Aux-In connectors). So that's the only part modified during the installation, and now I get a cupholder back.

I figured people thinking about it would want to know.

I just bought one of those omni batteries due to this problem. I leave it on the charger 1 night per week now. Mine wouldn't even hold a charge for 6 hours after while. That nucleus does drain the battery alot. I wonder if they have a fix.

American International's tech support said:
depending on what version you have might be causing problems. some of these units are being sold on the internet for vehicles that they do not cover. since then we have made all our units friendly for vehicles as far as draws. other then that no we have had no battery draws. the version you need is 5.03 and it is located on the back of the neucleus box.
My issue is the fact that the draw is there even when the car is off - that's not right. If my service advisor is in when I pick up the car I'll try and get a look at the bulletin and/or get the number.

Default Nucleus iPod Adapter

I just installed the Nucleus iPod adapter in my '06 Z (XM & NAV) and it works great with no battery drain. I spoke with the guys that manufacture the unit (American International 800-336-6500) and mentioned my "battery drain" concern. He said the latest version (X2i W/NC-GM32T Cable) has an automatic sleep mode, so no worries. Feel free to call them, very nice & helpful attitude.
