The 1.75 inches was removed from the rear end of the torque tube. After it was shortened, the rear bell-housing was welded back on. I don't remember the welding method.

No, I do not have comparison pictures. The ZR1 housing has substantially more reinforcement ribs on it than the Z06 housing has. I worked with RPM Transmission and they found a ZR1 housing for me.

Yes, the C6 Z06 diff would work. But, it is not as strong as the ZR1 diff. I don't know why the 7 speeds are less than the 6 speeds, but the 7 speed is a much better trans for Street-Track car.
