The battery light came on in my 89 vette. Does it mean the battery is bad or the alternator is not charging? If its the alternator what wires do you use to check the output. Thanks in advance.

I use a liquid car soap and water solution. It's cheaper and works great. I'm a Zaino detailer, so I use 1 cap of Z7 car wash with 16 oz. of water.
