The 2-bolt main small blocks were used in new cars up until the engine was dropped in favor of the LS style engines, and are still available as replacement engines from GM. Only the LT4 and Corvette...

If you decide to go with the LS1 you will need to make sure you get the LS1 compatible T56 or 4L60e. The input shaft for the LS1 is different than that on the standard, earlier GM transmissions. ...
