Mine's mounted on the horizontal crossbar under the glove compartment. It fit very well and is very easy to get to. Plenty of room for legs as well.

As I recall, when I did mine, I had a hose that was too long as well. I called VA and in no time, I had the correct length hose. I found their customer service to be excellent.

Check carefully for a burr on the crank or flywheel. They're normally a snug fit and a tiny burr would prevent it from going on.
