ATC399 09-18-2013 05:10 PM

why do you need wheels lock?

Dave@Ciocca 09-18-2013 05:13 PM

I believe GM will be selling them as an accessory as well.

Because after you have spent any time on the forum, this is a sight that you never want to see in your own driveway.

I spent 32 years in law enforcement and just retired last November. HELL YES put locks on your wheels.

^^^^^^I have traveled for a living for 35 years...Since 1980, 4 times I have walked out of holiday and Ramada type properties to see a car up on blocks....I've got two hotels to hit to get my car home, these slow them down a bit...not theftproof, just a deterrent for meth heads...

In that case, might be a good reason to consider the 20 lock set? Maybe? :)

Hmm, I read it as 16 lug nuts and 4 locks. Maybe I misread.

Something is a bit strange with the product in that Amazon link. It says it's Gorilla 71733, the package in the photo says 71783. 71783 is 1/2 x 20 vs 12 x 1.5. Which is it they're selling?

I think 71633 and 71733 are the same except 71633 lists only 13/16" wrench size and not 19mm.

WELEPRO 09-18-2013 06:17 PM

Any acorn/conical wheel lock in a 12x1.5 will work just fine.

Gorilla does sell a kit that will replace all the lugnuts with locks. I will say, that we remove these every day for people that have lost or broken the wheel lock key. If a thief has enough time, they'll still be able to get your wheels. But locks will certainly slow them down.

I might add that most of the holiday Inn express and other main chains will find you a spot that is illuminated or always watched if you ask. I was part of event staff that toured a BMW X6 and the M5 6 months before they were available. We always would ask and got to park underneath the entrance awning/portal with no problem 95% of the time...just ask...

Do they make black ones for those of us that ordered black wheels/ I would think it would look very tacky to have black wheels/rims and 5 bright nuts..

(bright nuts)

Yup, part number 71633nbc

bimmerborn 09-18-2013 07:11 PM

2LT and 3LT have tilt sensors. Alarm will go off if the car tilted to steal the wheels, or tow. However, buy the wheel locks. I have the Gorilla Automotive wheel locks on all my cars, including the C6.

yellowsnow 09-18-2013 07:11 PM

I looked on Amazon at part # 71633NBC and at part #21133BC, but their size calculator says that it will not fit my car... 2014 or 2013 Chevy Corvette

nice!

I'm gonna use my floor jack to see how much they have to go up to sound off...to steal a wheel it does not take much...

I'm always afraid that some old coot and his 500lb gorilla wife will put door dents in a car parked right out front. Probably worth the try though.

you always can find something that will destroy your ride.. park right outside the portal, in front, anywhere whey you are still in the hustle and bustle of things, but out of the direct flow.....use a bit of common sense....

Glen, as you mentioned my point is similar. If a thief comes for the wheels and jack up the car, the damage is done. This is regardless of tilt sensor, alarm, wheels, etc. Rocker panels are very expensive to fix. A lot more than replacing the wheels.
Wheel locks need to be installed regardless, obvious, and in a discouraging manner to the crooks.
