Don't kid yourself. GM knows exactly what this car should cost to make up whatever R&D costs that went into it + profit margins. What they are gauging is how the public is receiving the car and will use this to establish their MSRP. When the C6 Z06 was first introduced, they were cautious about the pricing and it surprised everyone when the base came in at $60K....did not take long after that for GM to realize they were leaving alot of money on the table and jacked up the price into the $70K+. They will not make the same mistake with this one. It will come in higher than most expect and are willing to dish out.

OP, gimme a sip of whatever's in that cup you got.
Let me just point out the most obvious thing that I don't think anyone else has pointed out -- you say that they're going to price this in line with the current GS, but the GS starts at ~$56K. Not $68K. Even when they get one pretty well equipped, NO one is driving out with a Grand Sport for $68K. Seriously... WTF, brobot. "Guesswork"? We know for a fact that there will be a Z51 option. It's not a guess. It is straight from the horse's mouth. It's one of the few things we already know 100% for sure. So you would buy one whether it cost you $85K or $65K? |
I figure that my C7, optioned the way I want it, will be in the $70,000 area. Yep, I'll pay that for it.

Well 65 is surely the better choice, but if you want the car you have to pay. It's each person's choice. I do believe the 72 rumor for the base is just that a rumor. Too many would be blocked-out at that price.
Also, I wouldn't even qualify the 72K nonsense as "just a rumor". That implies that, for one, it originated from some kind of tangible information somewhere, when really this is just some silly misunderstanding of an estimated price of an optioned out C7. The actual source of this information never said that this was the base price. And two, it implies that there is some chance that it will end up actually being true. There is literally no chance whatsoever that the base price of the C7 will be $72K. Nada. ZERO.

The base will not be $72K, but if it was I would still buy it!!
Still the most car you can buy for that price in the new car market today. |
Your point is what I believe would be a problem for GM if the base price is too high. A lot of those who can afford it would take a pass. And, many would just not be able to pay the price. That is not a way to increase the customer base as I believe GM wants to do.

I was just curious... Regardless of the price I can afford, there isn't a snowball's chance in hell I would buy a Corvette whose BASE price was 72K. It is simply not worth that much to me. At least not without another several years of inflation. But to each their own.

If all you want is raw performance, then you may struggle to do much better at 72K (although you could certainly come close, at least), but at that price, you can get some better overall cars. I want gorgeous looks: Check the C7 has it. I want a high quality interior: Check the C7 seems to have it. I want up to date technology in the interior: Check the C7 has it. I wanted more refinement (compared to C6): Check the C7 has it. I want a car that can hang with 95% of what's out there: Check the C7 will do that. No other car under $100K can give me the above for me. Can you name me another? The only car that comes close imo is the new Jaguar F Type. And please do not mention used cars....we are talking about new cars here. |

Rumors rumors rumors but yes that price has surfaced more than once now. Is it possible GM will consider the Stingray as the base car at the C6 Grand Sport price level now? Could be. How likely would you still consider to buy the Stingray at that lofty price? This would not be a fully optioned car lets say base is $68K + $900 shipping and a few options to total $72K. Base trim level.
:lurk: Best guess's so far are, it will be introduced in it's most base version, around $53,000. |

If you want more performance bang for your buck, you have plenty of options that are less than half the cost for MUCH more than half the performance. Mustang GT, 370Z, Genesis R-Spec... the list goes on. Then as some cars that are sort of in-between. You've got the ZL1, GT500... $72K is a definite no-go for the VAST majority of people interested in the Vette, as well it should be. At this point, though, we're just arguing for argument's sake since there is no way this price is going to happen.

However the Grand Sport is also a C6. So is a Z06 and ZR-1. What they really don't say it what model C6 they are basing it off of. That could be a little twist of the marketing tongue on GMs part.
The best line is "If you can afford a C6 you will be able to afford a C7" Ya what Friggen model is he talking about??? Something to think about anyway... Because if you can afford a base C6, then you can afford a C6. |
nope
would not be able

I have a funny feeling this is going to be the price point since the last few model years of C6 people were grabbing up Grand Sports in this price range. I think GM is going to consider the Stingray as the new GS and that now as the base car. The Grand sport was nothing but a money maker for GM. Its really no different than the base coupe other than maybe $1,000 (cost for GM) in a few extra body part add ons.

Is this thread so far from reality that it may be considered fiction?
|
So If The C7 Price Comes In At $72,000 For The Base Stingray Will You Still Buy It?
Not even at $62,000, if that's the starting point...
|
The base C7 will probably be in the low 50's - after all of the new car hoopla dies off - they will be cluttering up dealer lots and you can have one for 39K.... This cycle has repeated itself over and over - the C7 will not be an exception.
|
A fully loaded 3lt Z51, which replaced the 4lt, will probably go for 78k.....just my 2 cents
|
If the $72K C7 is Z51 equipped and has the same seat of the pants feel as a C6Z ,then yes. Coupe form only. IMO the C7 Vert. pics. look to much like a C6Vert.

one more in a long line of questionable threads....:ack:
