* Air Force Retired in 2009: 26 years
* Flying Crew Chief: C-130, C-141, C-5, and B-52
* Been around the world with over 500 hours of flying in various planes.
* Desert Shield/Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Just Cause

Bought a BMW Convertible (My 2nd) while I was still in the military. After I retired I was in the market for a sports car. I was ready to seal the deal on a Dodge Viper when my friend asked me to check out a local corvette club. May surprise you to know that I never even sat inside of a Corvette let alone drive one. Well, my friend had one of the club members to take me on a short ride. After the ride I fell out of his car and begin to twitch and foaming from the mouth. :crazy: The gentleman’s corvette was incredible and from that point on I was hooked.

I have to say that the ride was very memorable, but more importantly the group of people who I’ve met that day captivated me the most. This group of gentleman and ladies who own and drive their beloved corvette was genuinely the nicest and down to earth people I have ever met. These comrades are very knowledgeable and “Passionate” about corvette, period.

This was by no means a recruiting tactics trying to win me over; but, I decided against purchasing the Viper and bought a Corvette instead. Yes, I love every minute spent behind the wheel of my corvette…and yes, I’m one of those guys who open the garage door just to take a peek at my car sitting there before I go to bed.
Sorry for this long winded post...

…And to ALL the veterans on this post, "Thank you for your service and I salute you!":salute:

Coming up on 23 years of Submarine service- 15 Enlisted (ETCS) then commissioned as an LDO (Submarine Comms).

Brief detour to Iraq for a year supporting the Marines as an EWO 2008-2009. Amazed by them and would be honored to support again in any way I could...

I know no one joins the military for money or rewards, but I think every Military retiree should be GIVEN a new Vette, they certainly earn it for putting their lives on the line and honoring our Country on a daily basis. Just my thought.

ButchN 03-03-2013 09:32 AM

I didn't retire, but I put in 6 yrs USN 77-83, STG2. Looking back while talking now & then with my cousin & best friend who did their 20, MSC, SM1 respectivly, I should have stayed as well as I'd have been 'retired' in 99. But the constant away on deployments was straining my marriage & I left to save it.

The old saying holds true, which is "if I'd have known then what I know now".

2006c6keller 03-03-2013 06:47 PM

USAF served but got out early!

I spent 4 years 5 days in USAF and told them I could starve better on the outside and I did. I got a BBA degree in accounting AND have not looked back! I had a high school buddy who went to AF Accademy and then flew F4's and did the same and became a medical doctor after spending 9 years in AF. :flag:

USAF, retired in 94, E-8 with 24 years as air traffic controller. I too, seen numerous countries; just about all the Asian countries. Got my first vet, an 87 in 92 before I retired. But after retirement, the Vet bug bite hard and I'm on my fifth one, 2010 GS. It's the best one out of the bunch. In the last year I have tracked it three times; twice at Summit Point and last fall at VIR for a three day session. Was running with 911's, BMWs, and other brands and had more fun then allowed! I'm glad to see all the vets that have a corvette. Everyone enjoy the fun and pride of owning this great American made sport car.

Now I would second that motion!!! If it hadn't been for wife and kids, I would have done my 20 years and 3 days for chow and a room. I loved the military life and still dream about some aspect at least twice a week. Strange, my dreams have a central theme, I'm back in the military and having to stand inspection but minutes before, I can't find an item of my uniform, usually a hat or cap. Weird!
