Suffering from winter withdrawal!!

Man it's tough living in the northeast! Bought my new Vette at the end of last July and only put 1000 miles on her since I bought her and that includes the drive home from Maryland, and the trip to and from Carlisle in August. Then she got covered up in November. Now with the C7 out and eveyone on this forum posting up pics of their rides with the top down, I'm dying!!! I sure hope that damn groundhog says an early spring or I'll go nuts for sure! :willy:

:iagree: Cabin fever here as well...

flange 01-31-2013 09:04 PM

bought mine end of november, up to 1100 miles. took the afternoon off yesterday and had some top down time as it hit 70 here in pa. it was overcast but not raining. good for another few weeks

Kvothe 01-31-2013 09:12 PM

It's no better here in the midwest. I'm ready for winter to be done. Come on early spring!

Racer 01-31-2013 09:36 PM

I go in my garage every day and work on them, putting on new mods, that is good enough for me. I don't even get itchy until at least April.

Johnny_B_Good 01-31-2013 09:44 PM

I know the feeling.....48 more days till Spring. Unfortunately, Spring in the Northeast can have some nasty weather too.:ack:

peter pan 01-31-2013 09:46 PM

Was out all day and it was a chilly 60s:D

C6RaceCar 01-31-2013 09:57 PM

Should have never put it away. There are plenty clear and dry cold days to drive it. Silly little man.

Iconic 01-31-2013 10:06 PM

I feel your pain. -10 below zero here, and I have just 27 miles on mine.

HOXXOH 01-31-2013 10:13 PM

Pack the bags, get the car out, because Key West is only a 2 day drive.

Next week post up the pic of the US1 Begins sign beside your car with the top down.

C'mon, what are ya waitin for? Live it up a little.

4SUMERZ 01-31-2013 10:47 PM

I'm in my garage almost everyday, doing something like mods, etc. If I'm really bored, I'll just input addresses into the Nav for future trips, and hope Spring comes SOON!

It sucks to put up the car, but it makes it so much sweeter to get it back out in the Spring. It makes it seem like a brand new ride, each and every year.

You've got my sympathy for having to hibernate your car all winter. You might be hard-pressed to make it here on short notice but it's supposed to be 75 in Tucson this weekend. Here's to an early spring!

Andrew6@TheDoubleAA 01-31-2013 11:11 PM

It's always summer here in Houston.

R&L's C6 01-31-2013 11:38 PM

I'm with ya brother.... this is the time of year I start to get antsy and sick of winter. :willy:

It's -12 now and really windy here. :ack:

70goat 02-01-2013 01:37 AM

10 weeks of winter left here

Rich Mickol 02-01-2013 08:13 AM

I don't completely put it up for the winter anymore. On the batttery tender and under a couple king size sheets. If the weathers nice, out she goes.

Big Dan 427 02-01-2013 08:18 AM

Same here in CT, I feel your pain OP! By the way love your user name, that would make a great license plate!

I pull my car out into the driveway once a week and let her run for 15 minutes, I can't bring myself to driving it on these salt and sand laden roads, it's just not worth it to me!! I figure 75-90 more days, for the cars sake I can wait!!:D

Garret 02-01-2013 08:56 AM

I can wait..cause I need new tires and that is not cheap.

Ken_C8 02-01-2013 09:47 AM

I live just outside of Boston and feel your pain. My brand new car has barely ever seen the light of day. I did take it out last night for a quick blast on the highway. What a rush. Can't wait until I am able to put the top down for the very first time. Spring is just around the corner- I hope.

Joz132 02-01-2013 10:56 AM

-3 degrees here in Chicago this morning - Not going anywhere anytime soon :(

NormWild 02-01-2013 11:13 AM

Be comforted by the fact that many are suffering along with you. There are so many damn cinders on the roads around here I won't be driving it until April.:willy:

Nice set up for the charger, but I have to ask, why the cover on the cover...

ZimC6 02-01-2013 11:15 AM

Tell me about it. I bought a Centennial Grand Sport early November, and drove him over to my Dad's and put in storage. The only miles I have on it were from that. I REALLY wanna drive that thing!

Depending on weather/conditions, the garage door can drip on the car from time to time, when opened.

The actual cover isn't waterproof, so I threw a few tarps on top for safe measure - They are waterproof (called picnic tarps), $5 ea at Menards.

spicytuna 02-01-2013 11:42 AM

You guys need to pick up a winter hobby like snowmobiling or skiing!

That makes sense, my garage door does the same thing, but we have separate doors and it just drips on my wife's car..Good idea..

Torchsport 02-01-2013 11:58 AM

-20°F here right now. :willy:

Thankfully we're getting a "heat-wave" by then. All the way up to +15°F. :yesnod:

Polar Jet 02-01-2013 12:02 PM

In Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I feel your pain.

The winter withdrawl ALWAYS costs me a ton of cash. If I"m not upgrading the cosmetics of the car I am upgrading the performance level. This winter is costing me a supercharger!!! Got to move somewhere warmer and save myself some cash! San Diego here I come??????

HarleyB 02-01-2013 12:03 PM

I refuse to gloat about the 73º today (roof off) and the 75º tomorrow for the BIG Scottsdale Cars & Coffee followed by Corvette Saturday @ The Pavilions.

It just wouldn't be right.

Really.

I feel your pain. When we lived in Michigan, I stored the Vette for six months a year! The only thing that kept me going was to subscibe to every Corvette Mag. out there.......:D

My neighbor & my Dentist for 25 years was originally from International Falls Minn. and he used to tell me that you could always tell the out of towners who came to ice fish with an axe or an auger. He said at times the ice would be 6 or 8 ft thick. Is this true or BS?..

RJRSW 02-01-2013 12:10 PM

I drove vettes for 22 years while I lived in the Minneapolis, MN area and drove all of them year around. A lot of those years the vettes were my only car and daily driver so had no choice. Never had one day when they didn't get me where I wanted to go.

Moved to Tucson in the early 80's for the nearly year around top down weather, like was already posted earlier in the thread it is supposed to be sunny and 75 today so will be cruising with the top down today. I get depressed if it is raining for a day or two and cannot imagine putting the vette away and not driving it for months.

JFFVETTE 02-01-2013 12:23 PM

I know the feeling well. I had to put mine away in September, because I needed to have my left knee replaced in October. That was earlier than I usually do, but I wouldn't have been able to use the clutch until after winter began. This sure seems like a long winter to me. I sure hope that we have an early spring.

JLB768 02-01-2013 12:37 PM

Traded in my 2011 last Tuesday for a brand new 2013 GS. Put about 100 miles on it, most of that driving home from the dealer. Then came the rain and snow, with more snow predicted tonight. One of these days, I'll get to drive this brand new car...

:iagree: I have mentioned in another post that I keep an eye on the 7 day forecast, and if it's going to be dry and at least the mid-40s, I'll take it out. It's been a bad couple of weeks in the NE, so I wound up spending money on "accessories" to alleve the boredom. :yesnod:

R0NIN 02-01-2013 12:45 PM

Wow guys.. that would be difficult! I can't put mine away and have to force myself to drive my other car!

fast-vette 02-01-2013 01:06 PM

Moving from Cleveland, OH to Charleston,SC had enough of 4-6 mos. of vette storage, cold weather and the "mistake on the lake"

VVVsC6 02-01-2013 01:13 PM

snow melted BUT

The snow has melted just long enough to air out the garage, but the roads are still covered with salt dust and cinders. Another weekend of polishing and running in place.

:iagree: 6 degrees here in Indiana this morning but clear skies and clear roads. Took her out for a cruise for my morning coffee. Oil temps got to 150 in traffic but dropped back on the open road. For sure it's a compromise what with summer tires and all - can't get on it at all without the tires breaking loose but I'm happy just driving the car this time of year. Snow is forecast for tomorrow so it'll be back in the garage until the roads clear again. $.02

I have drilled through almost three feet of ice but we live farther south than International falls. I could see ice getting that thick up there. :willy::willy:

Ski resorts around here are loving it! Last year was their worst year on record. As far as the 'vette goes it stay until the roads are no longer white from all the salt.

VetteNGT500 02-01-2013 01:57 PM

I feel your pain! it snowed here on sunday/monday, but all the roads are clear dry now, I went a whole 4 days without driving it!!! the pain!!!!!

Looks like that's the only 2 times you drove it.
You should have enjoyed it more before Nov, which up here the snow (what little we've gotten this year) didn't fly until XMAS!
I bought my car beginning of Sept & have 4200 on it now, with only one trip to MD on it.
Oh, & I live in MA.

Svre46 02-01-2013 02:35 PM

I drove my car 162 miles home a few weeks ago after purchasing her. That is all I have driven the car. Spring needs to come soon here in the Midwest. Today it is about 8 degrees out.

Larry/car 02-01-2013 06:16 PM

We have been lucky, again this year in south central PA. There have only been two weekends that I couldn't use it because of snow and salt. We had a salt storm last weekend than a cold front brought heavy rain and washed the roads, thankfully. Had mine out today, at 23 degrees you drive the car like a Buick.

Have been in your area for the last 2 weeks (Rockford ILL) on business, the cold spell here is awful, especially with the wind chill, I don't think the vette would survive a trip around the block. Not exactly warm in CT where I am from but much better on average than what you have been experiencing. Can't wait till March!!!

Mad*Max 02-01-2013 07:30 PM

it's been two months for me now and getting tougher ever since I read about the mod to the exhaust to make it louder - really itching to try that out...

Greg00Coupe 02-01-2013 07:41 PM

Got my 13 NRB November 17th..... NE Ohio.... Got 2K miles on it already. It goes in salt and slush, does not go out in accumulating snow. Got it to drive. Each to their own but life it too short.

ATC399 02-01-2013 07:49 PM

Purchased Nov 10, 1200 miles and she is sleeping...Enjoy Greg00Coupe..But I like to put the hammer down and I just cant do it during the winter...

ZBADESTZ@Straightline 02-01-2013 09:39 PM

Bought my ZR1 in January and only got to put 30 miles on it:ack:

Here in Chicago its crazy 2 days ago was 60 degrees and the next day was -6 below ZERO:ack:

Nice set up JOEZ.. we will have to race each other at the airport this june:D

arrie 02-01-2013 09:54 PM

I have covered and I uncovered mine at least four times since December. Cover off right now. Got two days of joy riding...albeit a blustery 25 degrees. I figure avoid the ice and salt and have at it. I got mine in sept. a 2006 with 7K miles. She now has 14840 and climbing. I ride ANY chance I get and I live in NJ.

ProfessorDeath 02-01-2013 10:07 PM

In the 20's (single digits wind chill)and flurrying the last couple days here in STLouis--- didn't feel like waiting til March or April, so out we went. Only got a little slippery once, and that was just me testing if it was icy or not.

Agreed. I'm just a few hours south and it was close to 70, but so humid it might as well have been raining. Garage floor was soaked, streets were a mess, etc. I was off the next day and it was 60 degrees, but it actually DID rain. Of course, today it was Sunny---- and 21 degrees, and I'm back to work.

GordyRay 02-02-2013 10:02 PM

Brought home my new Cyber Grey 427 on Tuesday

On Tuesday it was 60 F degrees out. Tonight, Saturday it is currently snowing and 16 F degrees in Southern MD. That sucks. I only drove the car home from the dealership. I did have some guys come to the house this morning to install 3M Clear Bra. It was 22F outside when they showed up at 0800 hours. Oh well the Vette looks awesome in the garage. Sure would like to drive it fast. Oh well less than 50 days to
Spring.

:salute:

Looking forward to hanging with you at the airport:thumbs:

Svre46 02-13-2013 10:10 AM

Rained a few days ago and all the salt/snow washed away. I could not resist and took the car to work today. Roads are cold but it was still nice to stretch the legs a bit. High of 42 degrees today.
