My 2001 Corvette

Last week I purchased my first Corvette. All of the mods were done by its previous owner. I'm gonna raise it slightly due to the roads here and it rubbing my driveway. It currently has a catback with no mufflers. A bit too loud for my taste so this weekend I'm having a Corsa system installed. Other than that, she runs strong.

Mods already done:
Englandgreen Mayhem II cam 234/245 630 lift 113lsa, ls7 lifters, ls2 chain, ati underdriven pulley, lunati gold valvetrain, high volume oil pump, OBX headers, BBK 80mm throttlebody, 5 angle valve job, Spec stage II clutch, Short throw shifter, Dual cone intake, carbon fiber air bridge, Corsa catback, HID xenon lights, MSD coils and wires, custom sounds, Dropped 2" front 2 1/2" rear, Drilled / slotted rotors, Dark ass tint, tune by BSM hawaii

Glad to be a member here and look forward to learning about these cars.

Thanks everyone.

I'm new to Corvettes but not cars. It appears that longer bolts were installed in the rear. The front bolts were removed. I'm gonna raise the back an inch and install the front bolts and raise it 1 1/2". Right now the front air dam is 1/4" above the ground when level.

It also has the Z51 suspension.

chassed 11-29-2012 01:00 AM

It has Z51 Shocks?

Can you lost more pictures before you raise it?

Appreciate it.

Frank4202 11-29-2012 01:03 AM

Congrats. You have been diagnosed with Corvetteitis. Its not curable. Solid first car. Enjoy it.

I'm not sure. It does have Bilstein shocks but I don't know what type. I love the look but can't deal with it rubbing all the time.

Dang, I thought mine was low. Sweet ride!

chassed 11-29-2012 01:21 AM

I've seen that car before.

I'm surprised the previous owner sold it.

I've seen him post on LS1tech often. He loved that car.

He's a cool guy. We all change our priorities. I've sold a blown/forged 2009 Challenger SRT and last week my stroked Harley, neither of which I ever thought I would get rid of. Sometimes we decide to move on to different things.

chassed 11-29-2012 01:58 AM

I understand. I was there my self at one point.

If you can find out what shocks are on there id appreciate it.

I know you said bilstiens, could be the sports, or the Hd's I believe.

Vetteman Jack 11-29-2012 06:28 AM

Looks like a really nice car with some great mods already on it. Congrats and enjoy the new ride.

Congrats and welcome to the forum!

Great looking car. I have a similar front fascia paint mod. I also raised mine up slightly as well after I had originally lowered it. Not as high as stock, but enough to help with the scraping. Below is a pic for reference.

MSG C5. Nice ride!

Could you provide me the measurement front the bottom of your rubber air deflector to the roadway? That's the height I'm wanting.

Sure. I will post up some measurements tomorrow. In fact, I thought I read earlier that the best place to measure the height is from the jacking points on the frames, however I will also measure from the bottom of my front flex spoiler.

I second this. I want to hear that cam before you put mufflers on it.

How much was the selling price?

I measured this afternoon.

2.5" from the bottom of front flex spoiler
4.0" from the bottom of front rocker panel (behind tire)
4.5" from the bottom of rear rocker panel (in front of tire)

Hope that helps.

Too late. My catback arrived today and its already installed. It's still aggressive but not as bad as without mufflers. Slight drone at 1500 rpms but easily managed with the 6 speed.

I paid $9,500 for the car. He also tossed in a complete HUD setup that I will install next month. Tonight I took a two hour drive and really enjoyed the car. Ran flawlessly (minus the dips and rubs). I raise the car in the morning.

I was able to inspect under the car today and it looks clean. I do wonder if the shocks will be okay after being lowered so much. The car rides stiff now but then again the front spring really isn't doing much since the bolts are removed.

I highly recommend measuring from the FRAME and NOT the body panels. The rocker panels are just glued onto the car and can vary considerably from side/side. You may measure 4" from the rocker panel to the ground on both sides but the actual frame may be 4.25 on one side and 4.5" on the other. It doesn't sound like a lot but is significant to the suspension dynamics of the car.

Abnmarine 12-02-2012 01:26 AM

Car raised to your measurements. Looks good, no rubbing. Rides so much smoother since having the front spring bolts put back in. Rode like crap before. Shocks feel good. Alignment done. I'm very happy.

Spending tomorrow with my 9 year old daughter cruising the island with the roof off.

Forgot to mention. Replaced one outer tie rod as it was bad and installed new front brake pads as the old ones were near the end. Corrected a few mistakes the PO made. Loose a arm bolt, no cotter pin installed and kinked caliper brake line.

Dave68 12-02-2012 01:47 AM

My 01 is lowered using the OEM bolts and I sure hope it's worth more than what you paid! It has just under 50K miles on the odo.

Congrats and enjoy!

My street racing days are over. Not worth risking people's safety, or my career.

Car is doing good. I've installed those weather strips and purchased the dash bezel for the HUD. Next month I have some time off and will install the HUD, replace the Steering Position Sensor, replace the headliner and the headlight gear. I'll probably wire in a relay so that they close properly.

Did you get another Corvette? I saw your signature on another site mentioning a 2006.

Yes. Remodeled kitchen, bought low mile, modded c6 6 speed manual. That would be cool to have a video of my new car racing my old car. There are no other peoples safety at risk in this area. But i understand. Maybe I'll see you around at an event. On the 21st I'm taking my son to the Bleizin FX car cruise night in pearl city
