I have had people on the street yell at me to do a burnout in my last two c5's(both supercharged). I tell them as expensive as tires are for these things, they can forget it. I love to go fast, but have zero interest in burnouts. Just not my thing, nor is drag racing.
They impounded my car and arrested me on the spot. I spent the the night in Houston City jail. These days I always smile and wave and say "I am too chicken". :) |
 Not  at all....downright embarassing for HIM!!! :crazy2:

I quit going to a local car show because it always ended in bunch of guys showing off doing burnouts in the parking lot right next to the crowd. I didn't care to witness what could go wrong.
Doing a burnout creates a situation where the traction at the rear for car control is zero. Wheel speed is much greater than than the forward speed of the car. It gets sideways and the driver lets up at some point. The tires recover, grab and the car is shot in whatever direction it is pointed by now. That's one scenerio but lots more could go wrong. Guess we all have been show offs at some time or another. Just glad no one got hurt here. Should be a lesson. As dumb as this guy may feel, just imagine the guilt if he mowed down a bunch of spectators. |
I have to admit that I have never been tempted to do a burnout in my Corvette - seems like a waste of rubber and an easily way to damage the driveline with wheel hop. However, my question is would the putting the Active Handling/TC in "Comp Mode" prevent you from spinning out and making a fool of yourself like this? Or is it basically a lost cause?
I've always driven around the waterbox at the strip for this reason...not running DRs, no need for a burnout. |
Shi# happens

Obviously they should have been drinking decaffeinated coffee.
Or walking... |
"Note to self: Don't turn off active handling next time."

My thoughts are that on a full throttle acceleration, engine torque will cause the car to exhibit a right turning motion. To keep the car in a straight line, the driver unknowingly gives the steering wheel a little bit of a left turn. Now, if the rear wheels break lose in spin, loss of traction from the rear wheels, will cause the car to dramatically turn right. In response, the driver turns hard left and LETS GO OF THE ACCELERATOR, Now with no more right turning engine torque, the steering wheel is cocked into a hard left turn. This puts the car into a violent left hand turn and spin. I think you need to be conditioned to not let off on the throttle completely. Easier said than done. |
Well, if he didn't know he was caught on tape, he does now!! :)
If he hasn't seen it yet, I'm sure one of his buddies has. |
Tard!! Nice to see he didn't kill anybody! What a tool:eek:

And the dallas guys wonder why the C&C guys want to get rid of the corvette crowd....
I've done stupid stuff like burnouts before, but not in the middle of the street with LOTS of traffic behind me. If that Saab behind him wasn't paying attention, there might have been an accident that I don't think his insurance would cover. And a nice wreckless driving ticket for him. |

It happens - what a retard - it was purely for showing off and way too close to people and children!

I too, was under the impression that you must turn your wheels to do that unless there is little to no traction at one wheel. Then again, this is why traction control can save your butt on the street.

Noobie mistake also he did the front wheel shimmy shake to transfer power from left to right. That is a low power car trick if you watch he turns the front wheels left and right then loses it. I have taken my car out and done some of these what you call burnouts. The difference is I do this so I can feel how the is going to handle in different senerio's so I can recovery if I have this happen to me. In the way he took off if I did this my car is going keep going straight not turn loose most of you have done this the Corvette if it is aligned right will track straight when you grab 2nd gear I know mine does I also have a DTC brace on my tranny and diff.

When was this on Saturday because I was there with my C5 and never saw or heard bout this.
