I can get aluminum oil drain plug washers for 85¢ each. If anyone's having trouble finding these, I can send 'em out for $1 (ea) shipped.

OK, after seeing lots of people put in two washers, I jacked mine back up and added a second one. I like it even better!

Just picked up 2 copper washers at NAPA with the part number above.
The B&M shifter was installed today and I like it so far. It is definitely "notchy". I will put the washers in this weekend and report (hopefully) that I like it even better! Tom |
Glad to hear its working so well for you guys !
Thanks flynbyu2 for sending some of the washers out to folks! Toque |
Thought I went through 12, but when I sent the four out yesterday, I realized I still have two left.
Anybody want them? Buck each shipped. PayPal addy is a few posts up. |
Where exactly is this mod made? How does this actually affect the shifter?
I mean, it seems like some people are talking about lifting the car, so that means it's on the bottom side of the car? Where exactly? Does anyone have pics that show from a distance and then up close?
Also, how does a slim little washer on some bolt somewhere make that much of a difference in the shifting? I remember driving down from Ohio to Florida, the first time in a manual, and thinking how hard it was to shift, and how sore I was for the first two weeks trying to drive the car. I needed this then. Now it's just a nuisance I've gotten used to, but I'd love to loosen the shifter if I could. I don't have ramps, but I have a buddy with a Tranny business who has a lift. Do I need anything special to lift the car? I hear you will damage the car if you just try to lift it normally. |
You do have to lift the car.
The bolt you're removing is on the passenger side of the tranmission. It's near the top...there's a really big wire loom running very close to it. A 15/16 socket with a medium length extension will get you right there. When you pull the bolt out, you'll see a spring loaded ball on the end of the bolt. This ball applies pressure to the shifter so that the shift gates are more easily found. One or (in my case two) washers takes some of the pressure off that spring loaded ball making the shifter seem less notchy. Trust me, this is a cheap mod that freekin' works like a champ. |
Guys:
I searched around and found a picture of a 6 speed I could use in my procedure. This better shows you where the Detent plug is located. http://www.toquez06.com/avm/avm8.jpg |
I did the mod the other day and finally had a chance to drive it to work today. It definitely made my MGW a little smoother. I like it a lot. Thanks for the info Toque.

Last two washers sent out this afternoon.
The first several batches I sent out should be arriving at their destinations shortly. |

Guys:
This modification will reduce the "notch" feeling when shifting between gears. Easy to install and remove if you don't like it. On my web site at the bottom: http://ToqueZ06.com/ Anti-Venom 6 Speed Shifter Modification: Toque |
Just got done doing this mod this morning. Can't wait to drive it today to hopefully feel the improvement.

Does anyone know what sensor is on the driver's side of the trans, near the top?
