Did 400,600,800,1000, and 2000 in opposing directions which really helped see where I needed to hit harder to remove the lower grit. (thanks for that tip!)
Then used 3M Rubbing Compound with wool pad, then Meguiars medium cut, fine cut, and swirl remover on appropriate foam pads. I was nervous with how it looked at first, but as I got to the finer polishes, it really came through.
I ended up ordering a replacement one from Melrose anyway, but it was fun to experiment with this and learn a few things, so thank you to those that gave the pointers. This one is now nice enough to sell on eBay for a few $$.

Well done, glad that helped! I never intended to use mine and it had flaking and crazing, so it was worth experimenting on. Besides the tiny, deep machine sanding marks that I put in it trying to get the first layer off, it came out pretty dang good and I ended up selling it locally last year for $500.
