So they'll just change the gears and run 110% to the 1000'. That will be much safer.
How about a 5.00 index class.

It's about time they realized they are going too fast. 3 cheers for NHRA. Personally, I would like to see 1/8 mile racing to slow them down further.

But as has been mentioned before, there are other ways to slow them down.
What's next, 1000' or 1/8th mile racing at the Corvette Challenge level as well?

It's called a 1/4 mile because it's a 1/4 mile long, this IS still a spectator sport, decrease the car's power output, NOT the length of the track.

This latest development is a useful quick fix though and if it prevents one fatality or even one broken arm then it is worth it.

Actually NHRA proposed the 1000' track years ago for all racing but it was blasted by the racers

Might not be long before we see this everywhere or 1/8 mile,
Dave

1000'-racing was a hot-topic around the time that Garlits chased-points in the mid'80s, when speeds were only 260+ MPH

I've considered 1/8th mile racing at the NCM events, some of these corvette are to fast for their drivers to handle.

That's a great point as well...a fast car is only as safe as it's driver's skill and ability to handle it at speed.

I agree as well, I just tried 1/8 mile this week for the first time. The cool part is I got the same rush from the burnout box and the launch. Maxing out at 115 MPH seems safer than the 140 in the 1/4. At the big end I alway worry about the skill level of the kid in the next lane.

I ran 1/8th mile only (due to supposed high winds) for the first time ever this past March and I hated it.
If ever forced/mandated to run 1/8th mile or 1000' only I would likely give up formal test and tunes/drag racing altogether.
But then again I've never trapped higher than 93mph in the 1/8th so that explains some of it LOL.

..... the first-time that I bracket-raced 1/8-mile, I lost First Round & hated it:
same-thing happened the next 3 weeks in a row, and then the season-ended.

Over the Winter, I came to realize that I hated losing, not 1/8-mile racing, so I spoke on the phone with guys who raced predominately 1/8-mile (in the days before Interweb), worked on my game-plan, spent countless hours in-front of the practice tree, and 'got my mind-right' in-regards to 1/8-mile racing, and it was the best thing I ever did as a bracket-racer:
you get the hang-of 1/8-mile racing, and 1320' racing is much-easier

Too fast, what BS.

Typical knee jerk reaction.

Fix the Tracks.

Looks like IHRA is going to benefit.

I want to see 4.4 and 335+ mph runs.

These cars have been runing at these speeds for along time.

Shortin the run until these antiqated tracks get updated then let them blaze the track again.

Great solution!
