Default Oh Boy!!! Do I have a Story to tell!!!!

Guess I'll start from the beginning....

Hubby was changing out stock brake pads to Hawk's ceramic pads..Until I did a walk around... To check and clean/wipe down our C7 LT3 Coupe after his diy job.
We did take the extra option in the Sport Performance $$$$$ and is also (Non Z51).

Well I went to clean exhaust tips and noticed what looked to me "Rust" on the Mufflers, and misalignment of exhaust pipes..showed Hubby and was baffled and concern, knowing we only had 1,200 miles on the C7.

Well Hubby took the C7 back to the Dealership where purchased and had the service dept. look over. Service guy adjusted mufflers to level out as straight as he could get them and stated that it "Was the way that the pipes were welded" and cleaned the mufflers with wheel brite and suggested to paint mufflers with a High Temp. Spray Paint...

I've posted a few pictures to view.. of before and after...Hubby has decided to take to another Dealership for a second look over..

There's 4 adjustable muffler bolts viewable in pictures. How hard would it be to put a straight edge, loosen and adjust?

The problem must be limited to LT3 coupes; there haven't been any issues reported on 1LT, 2LT, or 3LT models.

That's just slag from the welding process that oxidized... The "rust" won't spread beyond the slag.

Would you rather they super-glued it together?

The rust issue has been noticed before the first production car was built! I saw it at Laguna Seca last August when Chevy brought about 10 test cars. It was reported on the forum at that time. Folks have removed parts to try to fix by spraying with hi-temp paint. I have a simpler, although not a perfect solution. The muffler is made from aluminized 409 stainless so resists rust. However the welds are made and do not have the aluminized finish. The spatter from the welds is also not aluminized so will quickly show a rust appearance. However the 409 stainless will not rust through like plain carbon steel. It does, however not look good. Check out my solution in this PDF. http://netwelding.com/muffler_rust.pdf
Not perfect but worked for me. Some have also covered the area with stainless steel baffles.
The tip alignment has also been noted and some have had the mufflers clamps loosened and realigned with some Improvement.

This is nothing unusual and has been reported here numerous times in the past. A filler plate will nicely hide the surface slag rust, and a careful adjustment will get the tips close to straight. How I did it is in post 10 here:

People are funny at how **** they are.
Just call the dealer and tell them your muffler bearings are rusty and you want them replaced under warranty.
I am sure they will be more than happy to help.

Or, you can install a perforated stainless steel exhaust filler panel made by American Car Craft like I did. It covers the empty space (and "rust") and also looks good.

Does the plate rattle when you're driving? With a Z51 not much room around the tip base.

If installed right. They do not rattle. Mine is the same just painted Carbon Flash from RPI.

If they do rattle at all, add a little drop of silicone to the noisy area.

the out of alignment exhaust tips is a serious eyesore to me and I'm hoping that they've fixed the issue by now.
