Anybody else? A/C comes on when heater is turned on all the time?
Want to check if anybody else has this issue, or am I the only lucky person.
When I start my car in the morning, the first time I turn on the fan the A/C comes on also. The temp outside can be 44 and inside car temp set at 73, but when I turn on the fan the A/C also comes on. This seems to happen every morning after I've driven about 1 1/2 miles and then turn on my "heater".
(p.s. “auto defogger" set to OFF.)
To test: Before putting your girl to sleep at night, turn your temperature to 73 degrees, turn you A/C off, turn your fan off, put the Air Delivery Mode to “vent” upper body, and make sure “Defrost” is off and the "Auto" mode is off. In the morning start your car, wait a couple minutes, and turn just the fan on. Does you’re A/C come on also.. YES/NO ???
This is no show stopper for me, but would just like to know if this is “Normal” of if it is just me and can be “fixed”.
Thanks for constructive responses.

Guys, I was told that when you have the controls set on a specific temperature, you'll see the A/C come on as a balance for the temperature you've dialed in.
This won't happen when you just turn on the heater.

I think AC is often on to "condition the air" on some cars. My MB did this too... AC on all of the time even in winter unless I manually turned it off which then also turned the climate control off "auto" mode and into manual mode. I bet it is just the way it is designed.

I believe it comes on to dehumidify the air. I have also read that it helps prevent the bearings from freezing and breaking your belt from sitting all winter long.

Why would the A/C come on to balance the temp. when the outside temp. is 44 and the car is just starting to warm up after 1 1/2 mile of travel from starting??
If it was designed this way then I could live with that if someone from GM/Chevy would verify this is how the heater was designed.

Mine is on order so I have no first hand experience with the car but suspect it is like my 2009 G8GT. If you put the HVAC into “Auto” the compressor runs, I believe, all the time. Thinks it’s smarter than we are. Tries to keep humidity under “control” and keep mold etc from having a chance to build up in the A/C system.
I’ll bet if you put it in manual and move the temp were you want it, you’ll get pure heat in the winter and use “Recirculation” when you want REAL A/C. Don

Look in the quote of your's above (post #9) that I was responding to, BOLDED for you. I do not have my climate controls in AUTO (Automatic Operation) mode.

Yes, mine does this as well. When I start the car and then turn on the fan the AC button lights up and I can hear the compressor clicking on, I have to hit the AC switch and turn it off. Temps are set to around 70-80 degrees.

My car arrives at the dealership tomorrow so I can't speak from experience with a C7. However, other cars I own default to ac on when the system is turned on after being in the system off condition.

Dehumidified air at 70° feels much warmer then humid air at 70°. The "air-conditioning" is on to condition the air, that is to dehumidify it. It also keeps windows from fogging. Your system will do whatever is necessary to keep the temp at your preferred setting. If you think you're smarter than the system, then set your own outlets, turn off the compressor and go for it. No one is stopping you.
The Stingray is not a 1975 pickup truck.
All modern automatic systems work this way. Just because you don't feel a blow torch in your face, doesn't mean the cabin isn't warming. I have no problem with the system whatsoever. After the reflash, it's worked perfectly.

In my C6, pressing the driver's temp control turns the system off; in the C7, turning the fan control fully counterclockwise turns the system off. When I park my C6 and turn the engine off, I always leave the fan on the lowest speed and do not shut the climate control off. (If the air conditioner is on, I do turn that off before shutting the engine down.) When I restart the car, the climate control system returns to the mode it was in during the previous session. I'll guess that, if you leave the fan on low when shutting the car down, the climate control will return to the operation you previously had -- no air conditioning and no auto mode.
