I see the red calipers at $595, not $995.
Still a little pricey but... better than blowing it in a strip club.

Below is a good thread about powder-coating your rims. Looks like about $350 is a solid number for powder coating. So $500 from the factory isn't that bad if you have value your time.

This do however make me think that the calipers should be $395 but again....Chevy needs their profits and like I said before its built into the options and I am ok with that!

Ya gotta give 'em props for their marketing:
Example:
'13 Z06 comes with RED calipers, but SILVER calipers are $595 extra.
'13 GS comes with SILVER calipers, but RED calipers are $595 extra.
Some where there is a bin of RED and SILVER calipers, no stripping-sanding-powdercoating required to change. Good job.

This is a good positive outlook!
I doubt very seriously if anyone could take their car someplace to have the calipers painted to the color of your choice for only $150 per wheel. (Especially not having to worry about it being done right or any other damages to your car)

I think the Z06 and ZR1 will get different caliper colors to differentiate themselves from the cheaper versions. Thats what they did on the C6.

Alternative Cost
Buy jack stands, jack car up. insert stands, remove wheels, disassemble brakes, package, ship to powder coater, wait with car on stands, not drive the car for several weeks, unpack calipers, reinstall brakes, replace wheels, jack car up, remove jack stands.
$595 seems like a pretty good deal to me.

He offers an exchange service. No waiting. I switched mine in 1 hour and a half. If you don't like working on cars I can see paying more for someone to do it for you. It was a 3 out of 10 on the difficulty scale. I also wanted to change to ceramic brake pads to cut down on dusting.

I bought calipers from Mike and returned my cores to him. While the price was good, I don't think it would be that much cheaper for the C7 calipers. There would be extra work involved making sure the Corvette lettering is covered. It is relatively easy on the C6 since the lettering is raised, but being flush on the C7 creates extra work.

OK, is that the cost? I was pulling the info from the corvette home page link which breaks down the option pricing as follows:
As shown at the North American International Auto Show, the Stingray coupe fitted with the major available options would be $73,360, including:
-3LT interior package, with leather-wrapped interior ($8,005)
-Z51 Performance Package ($2,800)
-Competition sports seats ($2,495)
-Exposed-carbon-fiber roof panel ($1,995)
-Magnetic Ride Control with Performance Traction Management ($1,795)
-Dual-mode exhaust system ($1,195)
-Carbon fiber interior trim ($995)
-Sueded, microfiber wrapped upper interior trim ($995)
-Red-painted calipers ($995)
-Black-painted wheels ($495)
Still, even $600 seems pretty steep for such a minor change. But I get it, if I don't like it I don't have to order it.

People stop complaining. Think of it like this if you were to take off the calipers, powdercoat them red (around 400 dollars) install them (around 200-350 dollars) your're already looking at spending 600-750 dollars to change colors. So 995 isn't so bad and 595 is even better.

As one of the taxpayers who bailed out GM I don't mind them making a profit. The car is still a great value compared to the competition and no one is making you pick red calipers.

$995 for carbon fiber interior is a joke. That's just the trim around the main dash controls, right?
$2,495 for the seats is a joke.
GM can shove their gouging.
