Default Battery hold down

I recently replaced my battery with a in-house brand of battery up here in Canada. (Motormaster from Canadian tire.)

It works fine but the battery is taller than the AC Delco and has a different upper profile which doesn't work with the hold down.

Does anyone know if the rods used to secure the battery come out easily? And if so, can they be swapped out with generic hold down bolts with the J-shaped ends?

I can probably use some sort of rubber strap or modify the original to work with this battery if the ends were longer.

I'm in the same situation with a Die Hard I bought last week. I haven't had time to work out a solution yet.

I've not done any battery work on my Z, but one of the "helpful hints" when replacing the battery is to tape the hold-down straps at the bottom so they don't flop out. That likely means they are the J-type hold down.

Here's one idea I found while searching :

It looks like a simple effective solution.
