Grinding, 08Z06, Need advice asap please!
Hey all,
I'm experiencing some tranny issues on my 08Z, about 8500 miles rt now on the clock, and it's been doing it for the past 2000 or so. Similar to these threads;
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...ind-grind.html
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...ion-grind.html
So, my questions are... what am I looking at here?
It seems like I absolutely have to go to the dealer, but I want to know who has been and what happened? Do they replace synchros, tranny, or what? Can I just change some fluid somewhere and fix the problem? I tried the Ranger technique many times but to no avail.....it DID help though, I will say that. All my sports cars have been manual and I can tell you, my synchros or whatever are NOT normal on this car, something is big time not good.
How long does it take usually? This is my DD so that's why I'm concerned a bit more than usual. Are we looking at weeks here or just a day or two?
Thanks for the help, and I suppose I'll be heading to the dealer soon....

Safety Car
you should be able to get a free rental for that kind of work.
Your synchros are toasted, I'd count for about 3 days of work from the day they receive the new trans.

Yeah.... well the thing is, I drove it tonight and no problems at all! It's weird, doesn't seem to matter whether it's warm or cold, becuase I've been trying to pay attention.
So, the main verdict is, I need to take it in.....probably going to have the synchros replaced, and hopefully get a rental car if all goes well right? Any other opinions out there?
If I'm not really having the problem all the time, I should still take it in right? (Seems like the thing to do to get it documented I guess?)
PS- thanks for the replies so far!!!

i just had trans work completed in the beginning of june. it took 33 days to get it back.
synopsis: reverse gear components needed to be replaced. special ordered 5 parts. two weeks later couldn't get the reverse gear itself. new trans authorized. week and a half later, couldn't get the trans, all in stock @ pontiac, MI were deemed defective (GM was also in bankruptcy so i have my own theories on why this occurred). I made 1 phone call to RPM and located the part. the dealer received authorization to purchase the part. my car was completed a week later.

Wow, Not good any way you look at it. I've got an appt. at Mak Haik in Houston for first thing on Monday morning, I'll keep you guys posted on how it goes. Seems like the synchros are all messed up or so we'll see!

Melting Slicks
Crap, that doesn't sound good.
Mine has been doing this short grind on almost all gears regardless of temperature since it was new ('08 Z06 with currently under 3k miles)
