08Z transmission grind
With 7K miles on the clock, I'm now getting a intermittent grind when upshifting or downshifting into 1st, 3rd and 5th once in a while. Clutch is fine, but I notice that 5th seems to have less travel to get in, meaning that it just doesn't seem to have the same depth into the gear position compared to all the other gears. It just doesn't go in as far as the other gears. Anyone else seen this before on this tranny?

My problems started showing up about 3000 miles and got progressively worse (very slowly mind you) through 7500 miles. It may have lasted another 50K miles - who knows?

There is a problem with the stock trans, no matter what the dealer says. A lot of people are having some grinding shifting 1, 2, 3. Not sure about 5th. GM says the trans needs to warm up and that it is a cold weather issue. B.S. as I live in socal and my car does it very slightly. I am waiting for GM to address the issue, 5 years, 100K miles lol.

Just a few ideas:
Remember, you are not moving or engaging the actual gear when you shift, just moving a slider (with has internal detents or slots) over the sychro and engaging small external detents (or sometimes called "dogs") on the front of the gear.
Probably 70% of manual transmission problems are caused by the clutch not fully releasing.
A good quality synthetic gear oil goes a long way in solving the cold grinding problems.

It's not a cold issue. It happens when the car has been driven for a short or long time. It only started a few weeks ago. Never had an issue prior to this. I just know it can't be good happening time after time as the gears grind away.

There is a TSB out to address this but it calls out weather of 32 degrees and I think 20 miles of driving and it should go away. It only calls out the grind in 1-2 not the other gears.
Good luck, same problem I had with mine. GM kept saying you have a 5yr 100,000 mile warranty.

I tend to agree that something else is going on if it's still doing it after it's warmed up. The only other thing I would suggest is to do the clutch fluid flush routine. It could possibly be that the clutch isn't releasing all the way. If that didn't help I suppose the dealer is your next stop for internal trans help.
