Now this is funny...

You guys have no clue how many Vette owners I get fretting over things like "Will a CAI void my warranty"?

None of your "Poll Options" matched my mods or future mods.

If you can afford the car and the mods, then you should be able to afford the backlash if anything comes after.

No afford no mod.

In the end it's just a car.

I'm not much into appearance mods...I'd rather mod for performance. I've done quite-a-bit to the car but I'm not done yet. Performance on the track is taking precedence over street driving.

I don't know if I'll ever be done modifying the car...there always seems to be something else you can do to improve the car.

[QUOTE='06 Quicksilver Z06;1566732950]You left off: "When I finally bust something which ends up costing me out the a$$."

My modded C5 (daily driver) was great until it turned into a freaking money pit (needed new short block) and time burner. Rebuilt her and then sold her to get the C6. Have an intake and thats gonna be it. I'm done with modding the crap out of my daily driver. Maybe someday I'll have a 3 car garage and an extra Corvette to mod.

It all comes down to your cash flow. If your F-you rich, things like voiding warranty and breaking parts and being with out the car for months on end while its being fixed, aren't a concern. I'm not anywhere near f-you rich and my vette has just about every part of the drive train modded, but If I had f-you money???? Who knows howfar I would go........................sky's the limit! Just my $.02

Dealers will blame anything they can on a mod even when it's not the problem. Been there, done that. Magnusun-Moss doesn't work. You would have to hire a lawyer to win a claim.

But to the original question. I would add headers and tune were it not for the warranty. I've got an intake on it now but can easily remove it if I take my car in for warranty work.

I look at it this way...
If I mod it after the warranty is done...and it breaks, I still have to pay to fix it..so why wait?

Because if it breaks before the warranty is out, then they have to fix it.

Why should I have to fix it, out of my own pocket, if it breaks within 5 years and 100,000 miles of my buying it, when I paid upfront for the right (figured into the price of the car, and referred to as "the warranty".) for them to have to fix it, if anything bad happened to it within that time frame.

Why am I going to pay for that right, and then turn around and let them off the hook, and foot the bill myself, for something breaking, after I just paid them to cover that end????? What, for a handful of horsepower which I won't even be using each and every time I get into the car?

1. So I am going to come out of my own pocket and pay GM, for the 5 year/100,000 mile warranty, figured into the price of the car.

2. Pay for the "mods" to the car out of my own pocket also.

3. And then when something busts/breaks, within what would have been the warranty period, reach deep into my own pocket AGAIN to fix it. When it would have been coming out of GM's pocket. And thats if I can find somebody to fix it.

Me: "Thats OK GM, it broke, but I got it"

GM: "But you paid us in the original price of the car to fix it, if if broke. We have a deal with you to fix it, if it broke."

Me: "Yeah, I know, but keep that money. I got this one."

GM: "Well, thats going to cost a couple thousand dollars to fix, you know that, right?..And we did make an ironclad deal with you to fix it if it broke."

Me: "Yeah, I know. But I am letting you off on that obligation. That deal is off. BTW, here is some more of my hard earned money for you to fix it for me. I know it would have been taken care of under our initial agreement, but I wanted to modify my car above and beyond that which it came as, and in so doing, I let you out of our initial agreement which I paid you for."

GM: "Oh, .......we see. Well, thanks for the money. ... BTW, will you be paying cash or charge for these repairs today?? Oh, and on another note, if something else goes wrong with it, be sure to bring your check book or a credit card then too. Since our initial agreement is null and void. ... Nice doing business with you. Say; do you spend a lot of time in the tech and scan and tune sections of internet forums?
Do you have any friends who do the same?"

Makes a lot of sense. Not.

If I am going to pay for more power, well then let them warranty it.

After I went mod crazy on my Mustang, I promised that I wouldn't mod my Vette until the warranty expires... and I haven't (except for a dyno tune which I couldn't pass up because it was so cheap, $150).

When the warranty expires, I plan to do the ole intake/headers/cam(mild)/tune routine.

P.S. I don't consider tires, brake pads, rotors to be "mods."

With that tune you've already voided your drive train warranty. Might as well go ahead and mod the heck out of it now. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1979769

I think I'm done for a while. My latest is a set of iForged wheels which should be arriving any day. After that I'm holding off because Z prices seem to be getting closer to my price range. I see a Z in my garage by next summer.
