I had my 05 fluid changed last week. I have the GM Major extended warranty with no deductible. They said it did not cover this procedure. Charged me $160.00. Doesn't seem right. Any others have similar experience?

I changed my 07 to AmsOil in my differential with the additive when I hit 4,000 miles. Quiet as a mouse, smooth as a baby's ***.

When did they start using the new Dexron lube - mine was built 2-22-08, I only have 2000 miles on it and I would really like to know what type of fluids are being used, the owners manual dosen't list Dexron?

i got the new stuff put in 3 months agao,, alot better!!!! but still some room for improvement,,

just make sure after it gets changed to do the ol' 10 figure eights at your local mall parking lot!!! its the key to getting the fluid in the clutch packs..

Default right turn

i have the same ,cv axle bad bearing sound, from the right side.i took the flywheel back out to upgrade the drive line(700hp clutch kit, both hardened shafts, bleeder)for a twin turbo kit.the car had 28k on it so we used the same clutch pack.all went together well and was filled with cheapy fluid ,trans to,
Amsiol brand was put in after 3- 5 miles or so.Looking for a flush!. i did add one tube off additive.the noise is less severe .how long till this stuff works?i do get a long warm up once in a while.
thanks,

As a side note, damn these C6 mufflers get in the way of the oil change. I like the C5 muffler positions better.

I ended up paying $17.32/qt for mine.
Looks like it cured mine.

Seems like it should. I have the same warranty for my '07 MN6 Coupe and dealership did this service on May 1, 2008-no charge. Said it was covered under the warranty. An extended warranty (beyond 3 years) should not even be required for this service to be covered, IMO.

I would contact the dealer, show them the bulletin and ask for your money back!

Oh, and BTW, rear clunking noise is gone. Glad I had this done.

I had the same problem and I used Royal Purple since it has the additive in it already and can be found at Pepboys cheap. Car is nice and quiet now. Here is my step by step write up with pics.

I have sold a lot of this to forum members. You could do it yourself.

I called my service writer at the local Chevy dealership and inquired about changing out to this new Dextron and he first insisted that it will still need the additive and that it would not be covered so it would be an out of pocket expense. I asked him to check the GM service bulletins and call me back if he learned anything different. He called in about three minutes and stated that if we came in under the 3YR/36K mile factory warranty complaining about rear end noise, they would, in fact, change the fluid out at GMs expense. He further confirmed that the new fluid requires no additive whatsoever. We're taking both cars in within a week to confirm. If it turns out differently, we'll post a correction but I guarantee the service writer and I will confirm GMs willingness to make the change before he'll hammer me for $160. for 13 minutes of work and $50. of fluid.

We just got home from the dealership. Changed out the fluid per the TSB and it is absolutely quieter at GMs expense. In the morning, I'll take it out to perform the required figure eights. Dang this is tough!

Went and bought the Dexron LS fluid yesterday. 2 quarts. Changed it in my garage in about 10 minutes (extremely easy, for those wondering- 2 torx plugs to pull).

Old gear oil was dark brown and smelled burned.

New stuff did not smell and was the color of champagne, which for the cost of it, should have been. $25 per quart, and it took two (well, almost two).

Figure 8's were performed, and initial results seem to be excellent. Much reduced noise, but it's only been a day. Time will tell.

I have 42K on my 2006.

Regardless of whether or not you have chatter, I'd recommend doing this extremely easy service, after seeing the condition of my gear oil. I do run my car hard and at high speeds, however. YMMV, but for 50 scoots, you can't go wrong.

Good price. I'll be changing my diff oil after each open road race from now on, and will order a case up asap.

Thanks for the tip, Facade.

Default Clunking noise from tranny/rear

I have an 06 Z51 6-speed with 13K miles. I just developed the clunking noise (some of these threads mention that it starts after 10K miles). The noise was getting worse and I was starting to have to slip the clutch, etc to keep it quiet.

I read the threads and mentioned to my dealer that there is a service bulletin for new rear axle fluid and to also check to make sure the axle bolts were not loose. They changed fluid and all is quiet.

It does seem strange that this was the fix. I also had to jam the rollers in my glass top to put that creaking noise to rest and that also seemed like another strange fix.

I'm not complaining as long as the noises are gone. I'm very glad this forum exists because the dealer never seems to volunteer these fixes and it seems like I have to inform them even though I suspect they are aware of these issues....

I had the warranty service at my dealer about a year ago and the noise has not returned. That was about 6 to 8k miles ago.
