Default Appears GM HAS FIXED LS7 Valve Issue with '12-'13 LS7s

It was not a design issue folks...

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...nvertible.html

From the thread:

Looks like GM might have gotten the valve issue fixed in the newer models as my installer said everything still look great doing the wiggle test after 4200 miles.

If you disagree, show a '12 or '13 LS7 with the valve guide issue

It is clever, isn't it...

But there are only 2 answers, and this thread will get it resolved.

Either:

A) '12s & '13s have virtually no reported problems in the months ahead, and then we at least KNOW it was not a design issue, and GM is just a troll for not helping '07-'11 owners. or,

B) '12s & '13s start reporting the same issues, and then we know GM was lying and let the conspiracy theories fly...

Whats the number of 12-13s out there? 500? 600? How many have 20k+ miles already? I think it is a bit early to say anything.

2552 LS7s in 2013 427s, and
949 LS7s in 2012-2013 Z06s

3,501 in total

It is a bit early, but many of these cars already have 5-7K miles on them. I picked up my '13 a year ago.
We should know if there are going to be failure reports by the Spring of next year (IMO).

Am I mistaken when I recall a thread sometime back about a nearly-new 427 convertible with a dropped valve? IIRC, thread was closed (perhaps deleted), and details disappeared when dealer/GM accomodated the owner in some fashion. my memory isn't what it used to be (but then again, it never was), but the OP-owner was trying to decide whether to lemon the car, seek a refund, or have engine replaced. He finally decided on a replacement engine because a replacement car was not available, and because GM offered other "inducements", the details of which were to be kept confidential.

But then again, maybe I am mis remembering allof this.

There have been one or two episodes of early bearing failure in the new cars, I suspect that may be what you are recalling. Main bearing, I think. One was around 2.5K miles and one was under 1K miles, IIRC.

So, you are claiming they fixed it based on the fact that 1 car has been checked at 4200 miles and passed the wiggle test?

Maybe a 12 or 13 hasn't been reported yet, but how many 12 and 13s do you think have actually been checked? Way too early to make that claim IMO.

Yes i recall that as well, and my suggestion to the OP of that thread was to demand an extended bumper to bumper GM protection plan warranty.

I have a 2013 motor in my Z06. Cammed since 100 miles. Motor has over 5,000 miles on it. If I am trying to find someone in Tampa FL who can check the guides...preferrably wiggle test

That's great. The valve guide case is now closed.

If the LS7 is such a bad engine then why are they putting it in the new Z28??? I have almost 6,000 miles on my 2013 and it is running strong. The LS7 is noisy as hell but then again it seems like all GM 8Cyl motors are noisy..

This is my opinion.
GM has left over motors from the Z06.... The Z28 will be sold as a race car with NO WARRANTY. So come on and buy the last of the junk motors with no warranty. If it breaks ....O well.
