Nothing wrong with the T56.
Tremac just replaced the T56 with the TR6060s around 08, so cars that were equipped with T56s went to TR6060s (the Viper is another car that moved in 08).

The TR6060 came about because they needed a transmission that would handle additional torque above the T56. They did several improvements such as stronger 15% wider gears, going to a stronger one piece countershaft and using a stronger housing to reduce flex.

Hey guys don't kill the messenger here but I just had to replace my tranny, torque tube and clutch on my 07 z. Set me back a chunk of change. The car had 68k on it but that didn't seem like a reason for the tranny to die. That was until I talked to my mechanic. He's certified GM and works at a dealership on corvettes only. He also works on cars on the side which saved my butt a ton of money. According to him the reason that GM changed to the 6060 is because the second and fourth gear in the T56 are a very weak link and have failed. I sent my T56 to RPM transmissions and the problem was solved good now for 700hp.
