[Z06] Heads are Back From WCCH. Lots of Pics
#42
I'd say that's heads-up thinking... the quality of gasoline nationwide these days is iffy, and it's not likely to improve in the future (perhaps the contrary). At 11.0:1 the stock compression is damn stout for a factory street machine (on pump gas, no less).

Yes. I told him which cam I would be running before I had him do anything. Indeed, I told him my entire plan and goals before I had him do anything. Wrote him a lengthy letter which I enclosed with the heads, and also called him the day that he received the heads to reiterate my goals.

I think you are going to be quite happy. our set ups are very close. I have 11.7 comp and a slightly bigger cam. I do have long tubes also. the name of the game for street fun is off the line and all over tq without losing top end pull. my set up is giving me over 450 rwtq from under 3000 rpms and maintaining it all the way into the upper rpms. it put put 545 rwhp two weeks ago in 92 degree heat. you are going to be quite pleased with your new power and seat of the pants feel. I have been running my set up for about a year now and it's trouble free.

You know you CAN'T go this far without putting those headers on man, as it would really hurt to leave an extra 30 rwhp and torque on the table. As you know that cam and those new heads need to BREATH my friend!!
Best of luck to you!

Good luck Ricky and hope you get a bunch of HP out of your setup
I would like to know if you notice any change in valve train noise after install.
Also, does WCCH give you the option of not having their name inscribed on the heads ??
And are you going to get some measurements of your current valve/guide clearance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

looks like some amazing craftsmanship -- I'm on the fence about how to deal with soon to be out of warranty and trying to bulletproof my LS7.
Sucky thing is I don't have the tools or know how to tear the engine down and take the heads off myself -- I was in contact with Anthony @ LG motorsports here in Dallas about what it would cost to have a pull, inspect, port, and SS valves installed. ~2800 rough estimate.
It's a tough call - because I could use that same amount of money for an extended Vehicle One warranty -- but that's a gamble on the assumption they would pay out if the unfortunate ever happened.

Thats a great price....I would do that in an instant.....My estimate was closer to $4K installed and not LG (sheesh...maybe I should move to Texas). And don't feel bad about no tools or expertise...I have the tools and could do it, but I won't......too many things can go wrong.....but that's just me.
OP...your heads look great!

Fast Intake + Headers = 21rwhp.
with stock manifolds that car should go past 520.

Ricky, you're leaving the stock manifolds on? That would be interesting. I plan to do the same for the time being.
As far as the ported intake, is it ported just behind the TB and no where else?

I'm going with the PRC 265s also, Katech torquer 110, Fast 102 intake and NW 102 throttle body. I already am running Kooks headers. My last addition will be Haltech's 107 intake and Beehive.
FWIW, after lengthy talks with Richard @ WCCH and Jason @ Katech I just felt that tumble polishing is a unproven bandaid (that's just me though...). Even Richard admitted that he had no long term results and was unsure how long the guides would last, just too much risk for me. The PRC heads have treated stems and coated heads on their new Ti intake valves. Plus, after new Ti valves from Richard the PRC (new) heads are significantly cheaper then R&Ring my OEM heads.
Ricky's logic is still sound and I wish him the best!!!!

Quicksilver - I think you are going to be very happy with your selections. Last month, I had ECS R&R my heads. They were sent to WCCH for the same work over - bronze guides, SS exhaust valves, tumble polished intake valves, .010 mill, etc....Previously had ECS install a Torquer 110/AR Headers. After the head install and retune, it made 551rwhp on their dyno (previously 524 without the heads). I don't have a ported TB or IM.
Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

Awhile back, one other forum member, OnPoint, had a Katech Stage 1 car which he kept the stock heads, intake and exhaust manifolds on and added a Halltech.
It was making right around 500-510 RWHP on a Mustang Dyno

Good stuff, you're going to love having the extra go now. I'd guess it will make around 515, but each dyno is different. Now start enjoying the car worry free, there is nothing like it!
