Ok major deal involving anybody with aftermarket shifter on z06 r.e. Rattle....
hey guys,
i know some people have already figured this out but for those that havent i just found out something major in helping reduce buzzing and rattling z06 shifters not just mgw but i think any of them.
well as you guys may know the z06 shifter BOX is mounted with hard bushings onto the center tunnel block. non z06 cars have a rubber isolator in them.
well while i see the point or concept behind this with GM but it fails due to the fact that it really doesnt make much sense to hard mount the shifter box then put a rubbery wet noodle slusk box shifter on top of it.
kinda defeats the whole point.
well.... i decided to swap out my z06 shifter box with one off a standard corvette so i bought at my dealer new shifter assembly and swapped it out. My MGW shifter is so tight and precise i figured there cant be much extra loss in feel and maybe it will help NVH.
BOY did it!!!!! i have much less noise and a whole lot less vibration in my shift **** now WOW!!!!! and the shifter still feels awesome and not any more vague at all as far as i can tell.
so anybody that has some buzzing in their shifter i strongly suggest you try this mod. maybe we can even get gene to get us a group buy on the oem shifters.
just a thought
regards
george

I've swapped shifter boxes and I have some pics. These are very easy to change. With the shifter removed it only takes a couple minutes to change the box. There's two mounting bolts and one linkage bolt.
Here's the Z06 box, looking at the mounting flange.
Here's the standard box with the rubber isolaters in the mounting flange.
Full view of both boxes

For those of us who felt they should get technician of the year recognition for being able to put in the shifter, will there be any pictures for the installation of the shifter box? I would hate to get in there and not know what to do.
Would remind me too much of my disastrous wedding night.

Do you get the whole shifter or just the box for $139?
Can you change the box from inside the car or do you have to get under it?
George,
Should I cancel my order for the new shifter and order the shifter box and use it with your old style shifter that I have, or will I see a big difference with your new shifter?

[QUOTE=Zoxxo;1568745275]Yes, until Monday. Too late for me on a group buy - I ordered mine from him earlier today. I'll install both the box and the new MGW shifter in one console removal.
So did you get any indication when George would begin shipping the new shifter?

I ordered the new shifter from George yesterday but I never asked re: shipping since I took George at his word when he said...

Is Gene Culley back from vacation yet? I'd like to know if there might be a GB for the shifter box.
I'd also like to know if I need the new improved shifter or should I keep my old (Sept. 08) MGW shifter and get the C6 shifter box. Is there that much improvement over my shifter?
Thanks.

If you ARE having issues with the *71 part, then I'm thinking of going with a *72 box and an aftermarket shifter too.
