Roof delamination....how can I....
I have a 2007 C6Z06 built in July 2006 and so far the roof is still on and I have almost forgotten that these cars had a problem with the roof. However, with the hot weather ariving, I was wondering:
How can I tell if my car has the new roof material (SMC????) installed from the factory. I remember the car was built the week before the switch over supposedly occured at the factory.
I also remember reading about a way to inspect it by pulling back the headliner (best part of the roof to do that?) and that the new roof material was a different color than the old, but I can't remember what that color is. Thanks in advance for any help.

How to tell
My 2006 Z06 built in may 2006, has just started having this problem. When it delaminates you can look at the under side. the origanal polycarbonate was all black on the under side. The newer top has a black ring around it but the rest is a grayish color. The way I noticed I had a problem was the black rubber strip on the sides front to back would keep tucking under the edge of the roof. Mine started at the back and continued getting worse. Took it to dealer today and they said it needed a new roof. The good thing is that they only make the new kind now & it does not require the dealer to foam under it any more. As for the bulliten look under regional groups pacific northwest there is a new post there. Hope this helps.

My June 06' production 06' had delamination issues literally the day I picked it up!!! It got to my parents house to show them the car, when I hit their steep driveway the roof made a big POP sound ...
The entire 1st month it was making noises on any twisting. I got it reglued and it still made noises... so I got a new roof within the 1st 3 months of owning the car. Been fine since!!!

Thanks to all for the usefull information. Can any one tell me the best way to peel back the headliner to see if the panel is black or gray?
In regards to the recall and VIN numbers, I understand some Z's got the old panels but still were not officially covered by the recall.
In regards to peeling back the headliner,do I do a corner or midway on the side or ????? Thanks again.

I came out crappy. The inside of the roof is all black. Currently the roof is intact, but the car never sits out in the sun and has only been driven 4K miles, and will not see a lot of miles in its lifetime (my 94 ZR1 has 12K miles). My concerns are:
1. The vin is XXXXX03517 and I understand it is not part of the recall.
2. I don't want to have this cause a problem 8 years from now and have to pay for repairs myself.
I would like to get it fixed permanently, not with the foam patch. Should I just sit it out in the sun and wait?
Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

Drive it and get it to fail if it is going to fail. Low miles are just a formula for future troubles as you are worrying about now. Who is going to pay for a low mile whatever 30+ years from now when there is no fuel to put in the thing? Besides the collectors of that time period will be looking for the cars of their youth and they are not Corvettes.

All cars made prior to August 3rd, 2006 are subject to delamination. My 07Z was made August 2nd and failed. If you have the old style roof it is just a matter of time, and in my opinion, heat.

Here is the latest on mine:
2006, (late summer of 2005 build)
low miles, garaged, in Arizona.
Called GM this week about recalls on my vin#.
I was told no recalls on this vin#, nor have I recieved
any recalls.

Read the bulletin and you should find that the repair is free irrespective of warranty.
