Default '08 "Short Throw" Transmission

How much "shorter" are the throws on the '08 than the '07? I know the change for '08 is more than just the shifter...but what is the effective % reduction in throw distance....5%, 10%, 15%?

Thanks.

Walter, I'm about 90% sure the throws didn't changed at all.

I don't own an 08 for comparison, but the 2 08 Zs I have sat in and worked the shifter, I did not notice any difference in shift length from my 07.

The improvement to the '08 shift is in the form of reduced effort not necessarily throw. The T6060 shifter is actually longer and shaped slightly differently than that on the 2005-2007 T56 transmission. It is approximately a 30% reduction in effort.

Was the shifter for the previous Z the same as the Z51? My 08 Z06 shifts much more easily and more precisely than my 05 Z51 C6.

Just found this post by MGW George...

" Quote: Yes...the 2008 cars feel shorter than the 2005-2007 due to the new tranny having closer gates. NOT the shifter....

Walter,

come on over and try mine. We are only about 3 miles from each other. I think the throws are very slightly shorter based on my checking your car on the 1st.

BTW, are you going over to Ray's soon?

Why don't both of you come over sometime next week and we'll do your nav mods. Walter can also look at George's shifter and see what he thinks.

Having had the 07 and now an 08 the transmission on the 08 definitely shifts better, smoother and with less effort than the 07.

Ray, I'd love to come over but it'll have to be a couple of weekends before I'll be able to, unless it is during the week. Have to see what Walter's schedule is.

Thanks for the kind offer Ray. I'd like to take you up on it. But, like Lead Foot 66, I'm probably a month away as I'm waiting for a special package from George . If you're willing, I'd like to do both at the same time.

I'll contact you and coordinate with Steve when I have a firm date.

You gonna be on this side anytime in the next month? Any significant car events on your side this summer

Walter, There is a CMCS monthly meeting and cruise prior on Saturday.

I don't have any plans for Sunday as of yet. Still tweaking the battery charger port on the back. Bought an "L" shaped plug and now have to move the panel mount plug rivited on to the bracket 180 degrees. Means taking it all apart and drilling out the rivets and re-riveting it in again. Not hard, just time. And of course, probably have to mow lawn again.

Which ones are you going to. If you'd like, come on over on Sunday or give me a call Saturday PM.

I drive my brother's 07 from time to time & then get back in my 08. Imho the 08 shifts are definitely shorter, smoother, & less effort. A definite improvement.

My '07 Z06 also shifts much more precisely and smoothly than did my '05 Z51.

I test drove drove a new '08 Z51 recently and IMHO, the gearchange on my '07 Z06 is smoother and less notchy. Couldn't tell any real difference in the steering, either.

I had an 06 Z06 and now an 08. No comparison. The 08 shifts smoother, shorter throws, and just a much better overall feel. jmo
